What Makes It to Become an Art?

Art is the end product created from the imagination of an individual. It is somehow
a way of conveying or applying this creative idea into making it in a visual form such as
in illustration through drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, music, film and literature
to name a few, which has the intention of being appreciated for its beauty or its purpose
by appealing to the human’s emotional senses. Behind each individual, there is
something that has propelled and drove them to where their imagination find themselves
in the masterpiece they have made.
It is not safe to say that everything around us is a work of art but anything around
us can be a spice or a main ingredient of art. We might ask ourselves “what makes it to
become an art?” To answer this question, we may associate it when we are applying for
a job and you’ll be asked “What do you have to be fit in this job that you are applying?” It
is the same in art, there should be some characteristics that it poses to become an art.
One thing that I chose that has an art of it is the ‘key’. But first let us delve in to the
characteristics of an art. There are many characteristics of art but we may describe the
artwork based on these three characteristics: (1) what medium or materials did the artist
use; (2) what does the audience see/the subject matter; (3) and what it is about/ the theme
of it? Next, we should ask if the ‘key’ has these kind of characteristics to be consider as
an art. To define the key, it is a piece of a formed metal with decorated cuts to fit the
wards of a specific lock, which is placed or inserted into a lock and is turned to open or
close it. By its definition, the material is a metal which is shaped by specific carving
techniques just like making a sculpture which is also a work of art. Next is the subject
matter. It may be very hard to see its narrative focus or what the artist depicts by just
seeing a mere ‘key’ however we may somehow consider the purpose of this very thing.
Clearly, if we go back to its definition we can see its purpose; it allow us access into a
particular space by inserting this small piece in wards of a lock and turned it to open or
close it. Lastly is the central theme of this very thing. Identifying the theme of an artwork
is one of the most difficult thing as many artist hardly presents its clear theme and the
reason why some arts may be mistakenly known to poses ‘this’ theme which may happen
to be very different from what the artist really want to imply. Still, people or the audience
has its freedom of impression to the particular art which an artist should also be open to
criticisms as not all the time they will be appreciated by their work. To identify the
underlying theme of the ‘key’ we may take its metaphorical representation and paired it
with the real key. In our way of life, keys hold a bigger symbolic purpose that awards us
access to memories, clarifications, understandings, control and access to whatever is
being secured or hidden.
Arts brings beauty to this world as it offers a sense of pleasure and enjoyment to
people that has an appreciation for art. For artists, it is more just a self-expression, it
allows them to escape their stresses within, which will somehow help them at ease. It
does not end with art becoming the end product of the artist’s imagination, it makes
them who they are.
