My Entrepreneurial Journey

For the first week in the Business Venture Management class, the lecturer, Madam
Tengku Suriani binti Tengku Yaakub, introduced the subject to all of us and asked us
to collect five articles regarding the topic of new venture management and
entrepreneurial process. The students are separated into groups for this task and also
for our group assignment which will be given to us in the future. I took some notes the
lecturer wrote on the board.

I joined with Zaini, Aliya, Sahira and Nurhafikanajwa. Each one of us searched for
the relevant articles to be used for the assignment. While searching, I realised that
there are a lot of sources regarding the topics of new venture management and
entrepreneurial process. I took some time to pick the ones that are suitable for the
topic.

I find the task interesting in a sense that I get to know what new venture management
is all about as well as the entrepreneurial process. I found the atrticles itself helpful, as
it ensured that I listened carefully and decoded information. Not all the information I
found was relevant, but noting what I found informative contributed to my ability to
form an overview on re-reading. However, the reliability of jotted notes alone can be
questionable. For example, the notes were not a direct transcription of what the
subjects said but consisted of pertinent or interesting information.

At first I didn’t know what to expect from this subject as the lecturer did not refer to a
book and instead gave us a task related to the chapters in the textbook. Therefore, I
was a little bit confused as the tasks she asked for are either not found in the book or
are huge in scope for me. Even though there are an abundance of information online,
some of them are not suitable for the tasks and this I have to spend some time finding
relevant ones.

I learnt that it is important not to depend on one source only and instead research for
more materials from a variety of sources and then obtain the suitable ones. This is the
first time I have to search for articles regarding the tasks given and I realised that the
scope is very huge. I need to know how to integrate them and then relate all of them
into one full topic. It is a good task for me and it will help me a lot when it comes to
researching for and classification of source materials.

I will have to be active in class for this and ask more questions next time in order to
ease my task. As this is a group assignment, by asking questions, I will be directly
helping my team to do well too. I realise that this subject requires a lot of
understanding and the scope is huge, so I must make a lot of effort to grasp this
subject.
