Unconscious processes are cognitive processes of which
the subject is not conscious. For examples, suppose I have just
now become aware of the constant “hum” of the computer at
which I am working. I heard the sound all along, while I wasn’t
conscious of it. Another example of unconscious processing is
the phenomenon of blind sight. The blind sight patient seems (to
him/her) to have blind areas in his/her visual field, however
when he/she is asked to “guess” about certain features of stimuli
present in these blind areas, the subject is able to guess reliably.
