Course Description
This course is an advanced course offered for students following undergraduate programs in electronics and
particularly electrical power engineering. The course aims to provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the
construction of different types of electrical machines (e.g. brushed DC machine, induction machine, synchronous
machine) their working principles, numerous characteristics and applications. The course also focuses on developing
skills for designing control schemes for dc machines.

Course Contents
 Fundamental parts of electrical drives including converter, electrical machine, controllers, etc.
 Construction, theory, types, applications, dynamic and steady-state performance of dc machines.
 Advance control of dc motor drives using different methods, e.g. flux, voltage, resistance, etc.
 Design of current and speed controllers for dc machines using IMC and their analysis.
 A detail study of ac machines (induction and synchronous) and their numerous applications.
