CHAPTER I

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Introduction

Technology gives us the ability to learn in ways our parents and

grandparents never had. The everyday usage of technology helps us to fulfil

specific tasks and specific interests. Likewise, technology met our needs and

ounces our convenience.

The impact of technology in our lives, today, is immeasurable. One way

for educational business, entertainment and much more or another, we use it

in different ways in our lives and in the society we live in. But what we are

used to calling the modern technology, technically not as new as we think.

Using technology is one of those issues that make it easy to be a fence sitter.

It’s difficult to be hundred percent for sure the use of educational technology

all of the time, when there are so many convincing arguments against it. For

teachers, they consequently find it a happy medium in using technology. It’s

useful in some situations, but a distraction for others.

For instance, if we have a great smart phone today we can figure out that

it is just an advancement of an ordinary mobile phone that that we had years

ago. Likewise, look at a train today, we used steam powered and now we have

electronic trains just to get to some place. The technology evolves, but it finds

old ways and old technologies to evolve.

2
The use of technology does not only apply to students but as well as to

the teachers. Instructions given to the pupils and lesson plans to be covered

can be done easily through presentation and recorded a tutorial. Although

technology has greatly contributed to the convenience of attaining quality

education, a student that rely dominantly on technology can bring out the

optimize laziness in him or her. This will serve as an opportunity for that

trained student to engage themselves with computer related works of they

would like to have a part time job.

It has helped develop more advanced economics and has allowed the rise

of a leisure class. Many technological processes produce unwanted by products

are known as pollution and deplete natural resources to the detriment of earth

environment. Innovations have always influenced the values of social and

raised new questions of the ethics of technology. Thus, the researcher aims to

know the effect of technology in their lives and to know the proper ways of

using technology, the negative and positive effect of technology and the

advantages and disadvantages of technology.

3
Statement of the Problem

This study aims to identify the challenges and impact of technology as a

learning instructional tool of teachers in Bambad National High School.

Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions;

1. What are the technology-related tools used by teachers of Bambad

National High School for learning instructions?

2. What are the effect of technology as a tool for learning instruction of

teachers in Bambad National High School?

3. What are the challenges experienced by the teachers in using

technology-related learning instruction?

4. Is there a significant difference between teachers teaching less than 6

years than teachers teaching more than 10 years using TRLIT?

Significance of the Study

This study was conducted to adjudicate the Effect of technology as a learning

instructional tools of teachers in Bambad National High School. The
researchers also wanted to identify the effect of technology as a learning tool of
teachers in Bambad National High School to avoid addiction to some gadgets
like cell phones, computer and tablets. Researchers desire for students to
improve and enhance their skills in manipulating the technology and increase
their knowledge in using technology related tool that will improve their
abilities. Moreover, researchers are yearning for teachers to use the information
in this study to equip themselves with the right technology and enrich the
teaching and learning process. As well, researchers wanted the school to utilize

4
the results to deliver appropriate technological support for teachers to
proliferate skills in manipulation of technology for effective teaching process.

Scope and Delimitation

This study is only limited on the study of challenges and effect of

technology as a learning instructional tool of teachers in Bambad National High

School. This study used purposive sampling technique to get the target

respondents. It was conducted to all teachers of Bambad National High School

with a total number of 43 teaching staff in different field of specializations. The

said study was conducted at Bambad National High School on january 2020.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter includes some related literature and related studies,

hypothesis, definition of terms (operational and conceptual) and conceptual

framework.

Technology has many affects. It has helped develop more advanced

economies and has allowed the rise of a leisure class. Many technological

processes produce unwanted by-product, known as pollution, and deplete

natural resources, to the detriment of Earth’s environment. We cannot deny,

technology has become part of our lives, at least every one of us has to use it,

either for communication, education, health purposes, job creation, travel or

business growth.

Jessica White (2005) said that, technology has completely changed the

scope of education in America. Most state require a technology aspect to their

school improvement plans. They have embraced the idea that using technology

in their classroom makes the subject anything from math to art-more

accessible to many kinds of students. Educators, administrator, parents, and

student are so well-versed in technology that it has become norm in even the

most economical disadvantaged schools. She also stated that controversy exist

about some student having access so much information.

According to the National School Board Association (nsba) study (2006),

technology has large impact on student’s area classes. This means that no

6
matter what subject a student is using technology, there has been some sort of

positive impact. The same study showed that the student can use the internet

to become a better researcher, communicate with a wider variety of people and

become better analytical thinkers.

The effect of technology in the classroom are so wide-reaching that

educators are still utilizing different aspects from computer-based assessments

and progress monitoring to opening up the world potential for the student.

Students have the benefit of being able to access information from an almost

unlimited resource. Teachers have the ability to quickly communicate with

other educator from all over the world to collaborate on lesson planning and

staff development.

Margaret Kay (2008) mentioned that the growth and prevalence of modern

technology has opened up the ways in which teachers can communicate ideas

to their students. As students’ progress through the schooling system, they

may be required to use technologies to research and prevents their ideas.

Kate Bradley (2009) said that, as technology become more prevalent in

everyday life, schools have an obligation to ensure that student are prepared to

use that technology in workplace. Beyond the obligation, however, are myriad

advantage to using technology and electronic gadgets in the classroom. In

learning options, technology has none of the barriers of the traditional teaching

methods such as lecturing which is typical structure toward a specific learning

style. With technology, students have the options of learning visually, textually,

7
through auditory means or even with a hands-on approach, manipulating

physical objects instead of simply watching or reading about them.

James Kendrick (2013) according to his study he emphasizes that drives

mobile device has improved a lot those days, and especially in the last ten

years. Mobile gadgets have gotten smaller, more powerful, and very useful.

Availability of mobile device is rapidly spreading throughout the world and

making significant improvement in many lives. We can be in touch with those

we need to reach, whether for educational purpose, work related or personal in

nature.

Kate Coen (2013) she stressed that, modern technologies like television

and computers provide identifiable education advantages, such as greater

access to information and more completing presentation of that information.

Over-use of technology, though, especially such gadgets as cell phones, I Pods

and video games, present a whole range of problems which may interfere with a

student ability to learn and attend to lessons a2c. According to him in terms of

social networking. Student who use their gadgets to participates in social

networking site may post materials considered inappropriate by school

authorities.

John Ireland (2014) mentioned that with advances in technology,

student study habits have dramatically changed. Technology has affected the

way teachers present information; slaving over books in the library and

scribbling down notes on paper. The internet allows students to access

8
virtually all information that is publicly available from the comfort of their

homes.

According to Per Tierra et. Al (as cited in Estuar,2009) the cellular

phones is like an extension of one’s self. Compared to other forms of

communication that the new world offers like the telephones and electronic

mail, mobile phones, technology greatly augments non-confrontational nature

of Filipinos.

Mark Griffiths (2010) mentioned in his study that, a lot of media

coverage was given to research carried out on young children’s technology use

by the US pressure group Common Sense Media and electronics learning

experts V-tech.

That is not to say that technology does not have positive side. A Low

(2011) according to him, he started that teens pick up quickly on advances in

technology. Whether it’s a new app everyone’s using at school, a new social

media platform is a gadget, technology is a pervasive part of human’s social

lives. According to Pew research, 78 percent of teens use the internet and 93%

of teens have access to a computer at home. Though technology itself doesn’t

spell disaster for your teens wellbeing, it’s important to educate yourself on

influence.

(Nobles, Reynoldsburg OH) the more advanced technology becomes, the

more it seems to have control over our lives. According to Lee Siegel we shop

work, play, love, search for information seek to communicate with each other

9
and sometimes with the world online. We spend more time online than ever

before. Yet people are not arguing about this startling new condition. I believed

that people have too readily embraced technology, seeking only the benefits,

and ignoring the many downfalls. it does not matter if your home is a noisy

urban walk-up or a quaint cottage on a secluded bluff.

Also with these advancements comes the fact that people are not always

alone even when physically isolated .with the connectedness approaching

ubiquity, physical isolation no longer ensures total isolation(power64).in

addition, powers also writers that, according to a new creed technologists are

turning ourselves the planet, our species, everything into computer peripherals

attached to the great computing clouds the news is no longer about us but

about the big news computational product that is greater than us.

Marco Albarico according to him it has never occurred to many people

that doing that much work may have negative psychological effects, such as

preventing them from pursuing hobbies a spending quality to others.

technology has a very much similar effect. First when you get a phone you

check it occasionally. Maybe under the dinner table. Soon you start checking it

more often and out in the open sometimes not hearing what people say and

even missing whole conversation. it can even get worse than that in some

situation.

Joseph Instate that society has shown us that from a very early age

children are exposed to technology in the form of cell phones, which then

10
transform into excessive computer use. Advertisers would even show examples

of families that communicate with each other via cell phone texts and this was

to promote their product to sell more phones. Some studies found an

association between excessive internet and/or cell phone use with anxiety

depression, social isolation low self-esteem, shyness, and lack of emotions.
