CHAPTER I

Introduction

Bingo is a popular game that can be played for cash and prizes. Bingo games are won the
player matches numbers on the card with ones randomly drawn by a caller. The first person to
complete a pattern yell, "Bingo." The patterns can be varied throughout a gaming session, which
keeps players interested and engaged.

The game Bingo can be traced back to 1530, to an Italian lottery called "Lo Giuoco del
Lotto D'Italia," which is still played every Saturday in Italy. From Italy, the game was introduced
to France in the late 1770s, where it was called "Le Lotto", a game played among wealthy
Frenchmen. The Germans also played a version of the game in the 1800s, but it is used as a
child's game to help students learn math, spelling, and history.

In U.S. bingo was originally called "beano". It was a country fair game where a dealer
would select numbered discs from a cigarette box and players would mark in the cards with
beans. And yelled "beano" if won.
Background of the Study

The Bingo Manny Application is based on the Bingo game and the developers came up to
make a plan and create game application. Bingo Manny was related to Human Computer
Interaction by using the principles of General Human Computer Interaction that rarely existed
and not common to everybody and the developer’s researcher developed to enhance basic skills
in answering questions and to enhance the knowledge of its users. People now a days are most
commonly used applications, gadgets and computers that may not give beneficial information
and the only content of the student brain is to play entertainment games.

The developers created this application game to change the perspective of the students on
playing bingo game and able to use The Application to the activity of the Professors. The
absence of the students in class is getting worse. The developers aimed to create a system that
will enhance the second-year students’ knowledge.

In addition, this concludes major subjects of the second year students in Bachelor of
Science in Information Technology course in the application that helps the students to
understand the major subjects of second-year students. Having a new era of technology in which
computers are easily accessible, the developers believe that The Bingo Manny is better and
looking straightforward by the information that was saved in the application and everyone can
from the application.

A log-in form will be asked to the user to differentiate a student and a professor. The
students' will interact to the system by reading and understanding the question inside the game.
The user will have three chances to use hint in every questions that will reveal the first three
letters of the answer. The application has a customizable mode from which a professor can input
questions and answers to be answered by the students.

Upon answering the questions a random stamp will appear in the bingo card. In order win
the game the student must have a horizontal or vertical pattern stamp from the bingo card inside
the game.
Statement of the Problem

The second year college students of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology in

STI Global City are hard to catch up with the major subjects and most of the students choose to
play mobile games and talking with each other rather than to continuously study and gain more
knowledge while maximizing the time spent in the school premises.

Foreign Study

Author Bingo. (Edelman, n.d.)

Author Bingo is a great activity to use as a reward for students, holiday activity, or end of
the year fun. Included in this game are 25 unique bingo cards featuring authors popular with 3rd-
6th grades. Each card contains the same author names but they have been moved about to allow
different winners each time you play. Also included is a list of the author names with popular
books or series by the author. This may be helpful if you want to really quiz your students and
call out a book title or series and have them match the author on their bingo sheets. (Edelman,
n.d.)

Synthesis

The relationship between Author Bingo and Bingo Manny is that in Author Bingo the app
itself ask questions, for the grade levels (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th) about library skills literature. While
in Bingo Manny the question is intended for the Second Year Bachelor of Science in Information
Technology (BSIT) student’s major subjects (Data Structure and Algorithm, Human Computer
Interaction, Object Oriented Programming, Platform Technology (OS)).

Bingo-Quiz - Youth Work Practice (Hirling, n.d.)

The aim of the game is to complete two rows on a bingo board by answering the
questions. It is not important whether the rows are vertical, horizontal or diagonal. The rows may
also cross. One team chooses a number and the same question behind this number is posed to
both teams. The answer is written down by both teams. If both teams have an answer or the time
is over then the team who chose the number reads out their answer. The other team then reads
their answer out. If the reply is correct the team, or both teams have the number crossed out on
their bingo board. Then it is the other team’s turn. If the question is answered incorrectly the
field is marked on the plan (loss of field). The filed can no longer be used to make a row. When
choosing a number the team should make sure that the number is to their advantage and make
sure that the other cannot complete a row with the number.
Synthesis

The game follows a gameplay which follows a diagonal, horizontal and vertical pattern.
The Bingo Manny follows the same principle but only uses a horizontal and vertical pattern. The
pattern is produced by answering the question presented inside the game.

World Geography – Quiz Game. (Atom Games)

World Geography is a quiz game that will help you learn everything about countries –
maps, flags, capitals, population, religion, language, currency and much more. This quiz game
will help you learn everything about geography in easy an enjoyable way.

Synthesis

The world geography quiz is a question and answer game that provides the information to
the user with the interaction with the games user interface. The aim of Bingo Manny is to
provide information with the user who will challenge the games gameplay. The developer of the
game World Geography – Quiz Game has the same insight with the developer of Bingo Manny.
