COMPREHEND

• Before you can start designing, you need to fully understand

what it is that you require.

• You have to know the vision and commit to the idea of your
company. You have to be very clear about the way you want to
work and your ethos. You should spend as much time as
necessary with higher authority of your company to understand
the expectations and the equipments required for your project.
Communication and understanding is as much apart of the
process as the good ideas that stem from it.
RESEARCH
• Once we understand what is required, designers carry
out research into market needs, materials, processes,
innovations and more, to give us the best platform
possible to start designing.
• You should take time to talk to users, buyers, suppliers,
manufacturers and installers and find out what exactly
it is that will differentiate your special product.
• Research is about composing a "Product Architecture",
defining the requirements that are most important to
the stakeholders and therefore the most important
aspects of the product.
CONCEPTUALIZE
• The requirements outlined from the research need
to be translated into an object or product
possibility.
• This process starts with the kicking around of ideas
commonly referred to as concept generation.
Nothing is too "out there" not to be considered and
as many potential solutions as possible are
explored. We hold multiple creative sessions,
allowing time to digest and evolve ideas in-
between.
• The results of these sessions are translated and
shared through mock-ups, concept sketches and
simple CAD modeling to be weighed and tested
against the product requirements, to provide a
refined platform for further development.
DESIGN

• From initial concept through to the final product

there are many aspects to consider. Choice of
materials, how it will be manufactured and
assembled, production costs vs sales price,
usability, environmental factors, packaging and
more, all of which will have a impact on the
outcome.
• These aspects all need to be explored through a
combination of all phases of the process, more
research, further concept sketches, prototypes and
mockups, more detailed CAD models, until a
product has been defined which is the right
combination of all these aspects and best meets
the requirements of all stakeholders.
REFINE

• This is the detailed design stage. The design team use a

combination of 3D surface and solid modeling CAD
design packages to explore all the detailed aspects of
how a product is to be manufactured, assembled and
packaged.
• The 3D modeling process, in conjunction with
prototyping, provides a very efficient back end process
that allows us to ensure the product is fully defined. It
allows for pre-production testing to ensure all the i's
are dotted and t's are crossed prior to any significant
investment in manufacturing.
PROTOTYPE

• Prototypes and mockups are used throughout the

design process. Whether it be to explore form
options early on in concepts stages, or test
mechanical options during more detailed design
phases, prototypes are essential for saving both
time and money and avoid costly tooling errors.
• You need partners having 3D printing capability,
partnerships with fabricators, machine shops and
skilled tinkerers, which ensures mock-ups,
prototypes and test beds are an easy and cost-
effective option.
REVERSE ENGINEERING
• Where integration into existing product is
needed, you need a team, able to reverse
engineering for a solution; either from scratch,
or by using existing 2D drawings, CAD files, by
3D scanning, or medical decor data from CT or
MRI scans.
MANUFACTURE
• It is imperative that the end point for all
design is successful manufacture. Whether
components need to be fabricated, CNC
machined, injection moulded, blow moulded,
vacuum formed, laser or water jet cut,
extruded, composite moulded, fabricated, or
additive manufactured - if you don't have the
know-how or the relationship with existing
suppliers we do.
Label Design & Application

• The last step is the option of letting us design,

print and apply a custom label to announce
and complement your new addition to the
marketplace. You need a professional label
designers or staff who can make you a label as
unique as the new product itself.
TUBES
If you consider a new tube product launch, these
key areas should be explored:
 Choose Your Dispensing System Wisely
From flip cap to flat cap and ribbed to smooth,
know the pros and cons of proper opening and
dispensing systems.
For example, is your product for an aging
demographic desiring senior-friendly packaging
that is easy to open and close? Does it require a
child-resistant closure? Do you need a dosing
device such as a nozzle, or will your product be
dispensed by squeezing the tube?
Design Around Your Needs

Are there any special tube design

characteristics to be discussed? For
example, do you want curvatures or
patterns in the seal? Does your product
require expiration dating and lot coding?
If your product will be boxed rather than
sitting singly on the shelf, secondary
packaging design may be more important
than the graphics on the tube.
Know Your Timing Requirements

If you are like most brands, you are

considering custom tube properties.
Make sure that your contract packager
has solid supply chain relationships and
access to desired materials, tube sizes
and types of caps for proper lead-time
requirements.
Know Product Flowability

The viscosity of your product and the

tube in which it is housed must work
together seamlessly for the best
customer experience. Products that are
too runny or too thick will not dispense
properly.
To Seal or Not to Seal

Depending upon your product and end-user

requirements, your product may or may not
require a seal. For example, an induction (or
peel-off) seal will ensure that your product
doesn’t leak while it is sitting on the shelf,
particularly if yours is a product that is stored
on its cap. Select a contract packager who
understands seal implementation.
SACHETS & SINGLE PACKS

Sachets can be filled with lotions, gels,

creams, sunscreens, personal lubricants &
toothpastes. They are available in singles,
duos and trios in a broad range of sizes. As
you examine launching a new cosmetic or
personal care product using this form factor,
consider the following:
