A. Rationale
K-12 basic education program was implemented on October 5, 2010. This is part of
President Benigno “Noy Noy” Aquino lll educational reform program. The administration believes
that adding more years to basic education in Philippines could help to solve the problem of
unemployment and help the students to think deeply and have more time to the career that suits
their skills.K-12 has been one of the greatest issues in the country ever since it was implemented.
The addition of 2 years is expected to raise our students on equal with the other school systems
and Asia and globally. It shows that our country is continuously getting more and more globally
competitive.K-12 basic education program is implemented worldwide except for the country
Djibouti and Angola. In Asia, we are the last country to implement K-12. Contrary to what most
people know, not all schools will offer Grades 11 and 12 (Senior High). Some schools will not
offer them not because they do not want to, but because they cannot. If a school (public or private)
does not offer senior high, the student needs to look for another school that offers senior high. In
Senior high, student have the freedom to choose what specialization called “tracks” they want to
take. The major tracks that students can choose from are the Academic, Technical-Vocational,
Sports, and Arts and Design. Hence, students must undergo this program to test several assessment,
career assessment and to determine their interests and strengths before they move to another
journey. Through this students are properly guided to their decision for their future. In a
historic moment for advocates of educational equity.
President Benigno Aquino III approved Republic Act (RA) 10533, signing into law the
K+12 program on May 15, 2013. President Aquino stated that k-12 program that this law will
empower the next generation of Filipinos. The goal of achieving educational equity shares and
teaches vision as we leave mark on our country. This is to ensure that what is taught and imparted
to students is adequate and beneficial to them. This program also wanted the students to learn more
for their nearest future; hence, students can have time to think and decide through experiences and
enough knowledge that they will get from two (2) years extension. In 2016, DepEd started the first
batch of senior high school in the country. By the year 2018, the first graduates of the two

This study aims to describe the common hindrances faced by the senior high school
students in relation with the full implementation of the K-12 program. This study will help the
researchers in order to evaluate the current situation of the K-12 program which can be a basis for
recommendations.
The study seeks to describe the common hindrances experienced by students in senior high
school based on the implementation of the K-12 program. Specifically, it seeks to answer the
following questions:
1) How can the respondents describe their perception with the full implementation of the K-
12 program?
2) What are the common hindrances faced by the respondents in entering senior high
school?
3) How do the respondents overcome the challenges that they are facing in relation with the
K-12 program?
The K-12 program plans to give each Filipino youth the training s/he needs to contend in
a worldwide context. The objective of the new educational plan is to give Filipino understudies
sufficient opportunity to ace abilities and ideas with the goal that they are prepared for tertiary
training when the opportunity arrives. Kindergarten was beforehand discretionary, and promoters
