In this essay I will be talking about the main schools of thought in Chinese
tradition which are Confucianism , Mozi and Daoism

One of the biggest school of thought is Confucianism. It is believed that this is

the school of thought that heavily influenced the Chinese government and
Chinese culture . To other Chinese Confucianism is not a school of thought or
just a philosophy to them this is a religion . We learned that this school of
thought was used mainly in the Han dynasty . Even today if you look in the
Chinese government you will find traces of this school of thought reason being
it has become part a huge part of Chinese culture. The reason why
Confucianism became popular is due to the values it taught. It taught respect
for the elders, proper behaviour , the love of learning which has become woven
in the Chinese society as a whole and many more. Nowadays if you are in a
BRT and an elderly person enters the bus in most cases you will see the
Chinese children stand so that the elderly can seat. Another example of
Confucianism is how the elderly do not have to pay every time they use BRT
buses . This is what Confucianism teaches and many more and it makes
sense that why its popular and why its being practised. He also taught how one
should treat other they way they would like to be treated. In Christianity they
say do unto others as you would have done unto you. Another reason why
other people have turned this school of thought a religion.

The next school of thought was Daoism this thought was founded a man
called Laozi. His philosophy was all about returning back to the simplified way
of life and the natural way of living. One of is quotes was “ if you don’t want to
your house to be molested by robbers, don’t fill it with gold and jade”, I can
personally say I see this a lot in Jinhua , you will come across a man with a lot
of money and can afford to live in luxury yet he lives in a flat and uses a
bicycle to get from one point to another. Laozi is the one that came up with the
ying yang school of thought it gets its name from the Ying yang principle in
which Chinese tradition viewed as the two major principles of Chinese
cosmology. The Yin is considered the female principle and the yang the male
principle. The Chinese believe that when the two principles are combined
together they will cause a universal phenomena.Laozi believed that everyone
should find their own DAO (way). This makes sense to me because you can
never be better than someone else the key is to be the best you that you can
be. Daoism became a popular religion in china

The Last School of thought is the Mohism this thought was founded by Mozi.
Mozi was considered a critic of Confucius,. Confucius was respectful of
tradition s where as Mozi questioned how things were done and always tried to
simplify things. Mohism was latter surpassed by Confucianism.
When I watched kung fu panda and I saw how cultural the characters in the
movie were I thought that maybe they are just trying to potray something that s
out of this world but now that I have stayed in china for almost two years I have
come to realise that Chinese people are very cultural and they very rarely do
stuff outside their culture thus I think was the reason why Mozi school of
thought just faded and Confucius s still being studied and followed until this
day. Studying this class help me make sense of some of the things in which I
had no understanding of, it has helped me understand chinese people and
chinese culture
