 TENNESSEE VOTERS SUPPORT TRUMP, OPPOSE REMOVAL
ALEXANDER DECISION CONSISTENT WITH CONSITUENT VIEWS

A majority of Tennessee voters continue to approve of the job performance of

President Donald Trump and they are strongly opposed to the Senate removing
him from office. Statewide, a strong 59% oppose removal, while only 37% support
it and 4% are not sure.

Opposition to removal of the president is found among all groups of voters

with the exception of African-Americans and those who identify their party
affiliation as Democrat. It is pretty clear that Senator Lamar Alexander’s
decision to come out against removing Trump was what his constituents
preferred.

In the meantime, Trump’s job approval rating has continued to rise in the
Volunteer State. Statewide, 57% approve of the president’s performance in
office (up from 54%) and 42% continue to disapprove.

 HOW THE POLL WAS CONDUCTED

This poll was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Inc. of Jacksonville,
Florida from January 28 through January 30, 2020. A total of 625 registered
Tennessee voters were interviewed live by telephone statewide.

Those interviewed were randomly selected from a phone-matched Tennessee

voter registration list that included both land-line and cell phone numbers.
Quotas were assigned to reflect voter registration by county.

The margin for error, according to standards customarily used by statisticians, is

no more than ± 4 percentage points. This means that there is a 95 percent
probability that the "true" figure would fall within that range if all voters were
surveyed. The margin for error is higher for any subgroup, such as a gender or
age grouping.
