Chapter 1 – Introduction

Chapter 1.1 – Project Background

Some of the vehicle drivers are not following the rules and
regulations. Several people are reluctant to cross the pedestrians.
We came up with the idea of constructing a prestressed concrete
pedestrian bridge to ease the issue of people who fear to cross on
the opposite side. And help to reduce the number of accidents that
cause traffic.
Chapter 1.2 – Project Location
The project is located at Bustos, Bulacan. Their population is
67,039 and some of them are afraid to cross to the pedestrians
because of the vehicle drivers who are not giving way to the people
to cross on the opposite side.
Chapter 1.3 – Project Client
The client of the project will be the mayor of Bustos, Bulacan
Mayor Francis Albert "Iskul" G. Juan.
Chapter 1.4 – Project Objectives
1.4.1 General Objectives
 To identify the factors affecting the use of the pedestrian bridge.
1.4.2 Specific Objectives
 To provide total material costs needed in the project.
 To provide necessary plans, estimates and schedule for the
design project.
Chapter 1.5 – Project Scope and Limitations
1.5.1 Scope
 The design project will provide an architectural and structural
plan.
 Estimated total cost
 The design project will be based on the design standards of
National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP, 2015)
 The design project will be using computer software programs for
the design such as excel for computations.

1.5.2 Limitation
 The design project will not provide complete estimate of labor
cost.
 The design project will only consider constraints that are related
to the design.
 Plans other than architectural and structural are not provided.
Chapter 1.6 – Project Development Plan
In order to assure the efficiency of the development project,
different stages will be done in order to ensure the positive
progress of the project all throughout the duration. The
development of the project will mainly start in the planning stage. In
line with this, the designers need to search for a solution to the
existing problems encountered in the fields in coordination with the
clients.

The second is collection of data. This will serve as the basis

of the standards of development to be used. It will also serve as the
primary evidence that the project location is experiencing the
problems discussed.

The third method is the identification of design standards,

specifications, and constraints for the computation of the design
project shall proceed. The constraints and standards will give the
designers the idea of the specific factors to be considered that
affects the current situation of the location in which the designers
are expected to come up with the different solutions and trade-offs.
After identifying the constraints, the next stage will be
establishing the trade-offs based on the given constraints. The
designer is expected to come up with a solution using engineering
applications. The effects of the multiple constraints be considered
in order to come up with different trade-offs, each composed of a
design of different design properties that is unique to the other.
Basically, the trade-offs to be identified will possess a distinct
quality which makes it different from the other and furthermore be
evaluated as the project goes by.

After identifying the different trade-offs to be used, the

designers will design the project according to the different tradeoffs.
The results and data obtained from the design procedure will serve
as a guide in the future by selecting the most efficient and effective
project design which will base on the client’s preference.
