MODULE The length in mm of the pitch circle diameter per tooth. MOD = PCD / N

Number of Teeth The number of teeth on the gear. N = PCD / MOD

Pitch Circle Diameter The diameter of the pitch circle. PCD = N x MOD
Outside Diameter The outside diameter of the gear. OD = (N + 2) x MOD
Center Distance The distance between the axes of two gears in mesh. C = PCD(g) + PCD(p)

The distance between adjacent teeth measured along the CP =

arc at the pitch circle diameter.

The width of a tooth measured along the arc at the pitch CTT = CP / 2
Circular Tooth Thickness circle diameter.

Addendum The height of the tooth above the pitch circle diameter. A = MOD

Dedendum The depth of the tooth below the pitch circle diameter. D=H-A

Dedendum Diameter DD=OD-(A+D)x2

Whole Depth The total depth of the space between adjacent teeth. Finer than 1.25 MOD:

H = 2.4 x MOD

1.25 MOD and coarser:

H = 2.25 x MOD

I have to design a Cad model for a RC car, and I am stuck on how to find out what size my gear has to be. The motor I am using
140 motor, with R.P.M of 7,600( no load), and 5,200(normal load). it also has a 270MA( current no load). Also what do they m
mean when weight is added?

Suppose there is just one gear pair (the pinion on the motor shaft and the gear on the wheel shaft.
Normal load is when the car propels it's own weight, no load is when you hold it in air while the motor turns.
You must first establish how fast it has to be: assume v=5 m/s (18 km/h) and what kind of wheel it has (measure the diameter u
No. of wheel rpm for the speed v: 10/0.157 = 63.7 rps * 60 = 3,822 rpm
Overall transmission ratio of two gears: i=5,200/3,822 = 1.361
If the pinion on motor side has, say, 48 teeth, then the gear on wheel side will have 48 * 1.361 = 65 teeth.
(In selecting/assuming your values consider also car size, weight, shaft size etc. and plug them in).
As you can see, it DOES depend on the overall wheel size, it's been factored in above through the wheel diameter and circumfe
