CONTENT STANDARD : Reading 3.1 Understand a variety of texts by using a
range of appropriate reading strategies to construct
meaning.
Speaking 2.1 Communicate information, ideas,
opinions and feelings intelligibly on familiar topics.
LEARNING STANDARD : Reading 3.1.1 Understand the main points in
extended texts on a wide range of familiar topics.
Speaking 2.1.4 Explain and justify own point of view.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
1. understand information by looking for someone’s
opinion in four short texts.
2. explain and justify their answers and opinions.

DEVELOPMENT: LESSON (40 : Activity 1 (Jigsaw Reading)

2. Every pupil is assigned as Alicia, Adrian, Rayyan or
Emma.
3. They have to form a new group according to their
assigned name. Those named Alicia will read text A,
Adrian: text B, Rayyan: text C and Emma: text D.
4. In their group, they read their assigned text silently
for 2 minutes and discuss the gist. [Differentiation by
support: by peer or teacher]
5. Pupils get back to their previous groups and share
their findings.
6. They are then given a set of 8 questions covering
three types of questions (questions of literal
comprehension, personal response and questions
involving organisation or interpretation)
e.g : Why does Adrian’s friend stop using an SN site?
Whose opinion that you agree with and why?
Who likes and dislikes using SN sites?
[Differentiation : for fast finished group/s, they are
given extra 2 or 3 questions]
7. Pupils discuss and justify their answers. [FA :
talking chips]

Activity 2 (Gap Fill)


1. Still in groups, pupils are given a cloze text
whereby they have to complete it using the
highlighted words taken from the four reading texts.
2. Pupils are selected using Dojo application to share
their answers [FA : peer assessment/thumbs up,
thumbs down, thumbs sideways] which will be
confirmed by the teacher.

POST LESSON (10 minutes) : 1. Pupils are asked, “Would you like to use new and
unfamiliar SN sites?” (e.g blog, vlog and Wikipedia)
[FA : Traffic lights]
2. Pupils are selected at random using lollipop sticks
to explain their answers and opinions to the above
complex question.
