THE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES AND PRACTICES OF SOUTHERN DAVAO

NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL THAT IDENTIFY THE KINDS OF CURRICULA.

Curriculum is considered as the heart of the institution. It helps the teachers to

deliver the quality education. Curriculum is the center of all learning process. Without

curriculum we are direction less.

In Southern Davao National High School, the teachers together with our Principal

ensure that our learners would be catered the knowledge to mold and guide them to the

right carrier where he/she should be in the future.

That is why there are lot of activities and practices in our school that would help

them achieve their desired goals in life.

1. CLASSROOM DISCUSSION USING THE POWERPOINT

PRESENTATION and this identify the SUPPORTED CURRICULUM. Most of the

teachers are already engaged in technologies to assist them in their lectures. By doing

this, it enhances learning by providing a better understanding of the topic as well as

motivating students. Another example of SUPPORTED CURRICULUM is

PROVIDING THE STUDENTS a FACILITY to make the learning more interesting.

Based on my experience as a MAPEH teacher, every after my discussion, I am giving my

students a performance task that they could do their practices or performances outside

the classroom. For example, if I am teaching Philippine Folk Dance in Grade 7, I will

provide my students Audio Visual Presentation of the said topic. And they would be

given enough time to practice their chosen Philippine Folk Dance outside the classroom,

it could be on the field or on the stage. And of course the students will be provided with

sound system. Science Laboratory is also available in our school to cater the students in

their Science subject’s activities.

2. MID-PERIODICAL EXAMINATION and UNIFIED PERIODICAL

EXAMINATION are example of ASSESSED CURRICULUM. Of course in every lesson,

the students should be evaluated on what they learned. This also can help the teacher

gauge his or her capacity to teach. Because I do believe that if many students fail during

the exams, that means that the teacher did not deliver his or her lesson very well and so

the teacher needs to re- teach his lesson. As a teacher, I could also assess or evaluate the

students’ skills not just on written but also in performance/output.

3. SUBMITTING DAILY LESSON PLAN identifies the WRITTEN

CURRICULUM. In our school, the teachers should submit DLL every Monday. Because

I do believe that Lesson Plan can help me in maintaining a pattern of my teaching. Lesson

plan can provide me also a step by step guide to deliver my lesson. For me Lesson Plan

serves as my Bible during my class discussion. My lesson plan is based also on the

curriculum given by DepEd and also with the aid of different sites in the internet for

additional information.

4. THE TEACHERS SHOULD HAVE A COPY OF CURRICULUM GUIDE

from DepEd, and this is an example of RECOMMENDED CURRICULUM. The teacher

should have a copy of the CG of every subject that he or she is handling. For me, I really

secured a copy of the CG of MAPEH 7 and MAPEH 9 because these are the subjects I am

handling in our school. Because I do believe that CG is the bone of my teaching. How

could I teach my lesson if I don’t have any references. And I also make sure that all the

competencies written on the CG will be taught to the students, so that it’s easy for them

to answer the UNIFIED Test given by our EPS in MAPEH in our Division Office.

5. THE LECTURE STYLE and ACTIVITY STYLE in Teaching are examples

of TAUGHT CURRICULUM. As a Mapeh teacher of our institution, I really make sure

to teach what is written in the Curriculum Guide and what is written in my Daily Lesson

Plan. After the lecture of my topic, I should give an activity to my students based on my
lesson because Mapeh subject is a performance based subject. But I make sure that every

activity or performance task that I will be giving to my students would really develop

their COGNITIVE, AFFECTIVE and PSYCHOMOTOR SKILLS. And this is related to the

fourth activity or practice in our school which is the Intramurals.

6. SCHOOL INTRAMURALS, identifies the LEARNED CURRICULUM.

In our school, we are having our Instramurals every August in preparation for the

different higher meets. Why do I identify it as a Learned Curriculum because as a

MAPEH teacher, during my lecture in Mapeh 9, there is a lesson there that teaches the

students about different sports and how to officiate. By teaching this lesson to the

students, they would have changes in their lives that could be applied in their daily

activities. Such that, because of the learning I inculcate to them, they could participate in

the Intramurals. Some could be a player of different events or some could be an official

of different games. By doing so, COGNITIVE (the students would have learnings about

the different sports) AFFECTIVE (the students can develop the sense of sportsmanship

and teamwork among their grade level) and PSYCHOMOTOR SKILLS (the students will

become stronger physically because different skills will be taught to them) are evident

being developed. It can also be considered as HIDDEN/IMPLICIT CURRICULUM

because it can interrupt schedules of classes.

7. ATTENDING/PARTICIPATING in the ARAW NG BARANGAY

SOUTHERN DAVAO identifies the HIDDEN/IMPLICIT CURRICULUM. The

students in our school are encouraged to participate in the different activities during the

celebration and so formal classroom discussion is suspended. And this can also develop

Unity among the people of the Barangay. But for me, I see to it that after the said activity,

I could cope up with the lessons so that my students will not be left behind during the

conduct of the Unified Periodical Examinations. Another example of Hidden/Implicit

Curriculum is the Earthquake calamity we experienced few weeks ago. For me, I really
feel sad because of the cancellation of classes because of the Shakings that we experienced

because I really have to adjust my time in my classroom discussions and giving of

performance task.

8. CELEBRATING the NUTRITION MONTH every JULY, BUWAN NG

WIKA every AUGUST, MATH and SCIENCE MONTH CELEBRATION every

SEPTEMBER, THE UNITED NATIONS every October, READING and ENGLISH

month during NOVEMBER identify as HIDDEN/IMPLICIT CURRICULUM.
