Earthquakes occur when two

blocks of rock below the earth

rub against each other.
When relative motion
between the plates occur it
increases stress between
them.
When the stress hits it’s limit it
rises and breaks it releases
stored energy and causes shock
waves.
These waves are then interpreted
as vibrations which spreads now
in all direction from the source of
disturbance. = EARTHQUAKE
MAGNITUDE - the overall strength or "size"
