2.3 Notes on replacing firmware

The following points must be noted when replacing the firmware and
performed in the order as indicated:

• Starting point is an operable machine with the following

firmware
CLC control card: FWC-CLC*DP-SY*-03VRS-MS
drive (DIAX03): FWC-DSM2.3-ELS-04VRS-MS
drive (ECODRIVE): FWC-DKC2.1-SSE-02VRS-MS

• Check both the CLC firmware version in parameter "CLC -

firmware version" (C-0-0032) and the drive firmware
version in parameter "manufacturer version" (S-0-0030)
This verifies the correct starting point. Check the parameter
"manufacturer version" (S-0-0030) in all drives.

• Check the CLC hardware version in parameter "CLC -

hardware Version" (C-0-0024)
The CLC firmware must support this CLC hardware (see section
"Referenced hardware")

• The goal is an operable machine with the following

firmware
CLC command card: FWC-CLC*DP-SY*-04VRS-MS
Drives (DIAX03): FWC-DSM2.3-ELS-04VRS-MS
Drives (ECODRIVE): FWC-DKC2.1-SSE-02VRS-MS
Check to make sure that this firmware is installed.

SYNAX Decentralized System for the Synchronization of Machine Axes

• Secure the current parameter set of the machine in

SAVE.ASC
Prior to replacing the CLC firmware, all A and C parameters must be
stored with the CLC terminal function "store parameters" or with "File"
"Store" in SynTop. This file must be named SAVE.ASC.

• Translate the I/O logic with PARA.EXE, version 06VRS

The firmware will not accept this version and then will generate the
error message "C-0-0013: non-permissible PARA.EXE version".

• Switch machine off, set jumper S2 and replace the

firmware of the CLC
By setting jumper S2, SynTop is forced to terminal X27 when powering
up.
Note the older position of the jumper.

• Switch machine on
CLC-D: After powering up, the CLC-D will boot up into parametrization
mode and then will display, due to invalid parameter, diagnosis 14
"CLC parameter checksum error (see C-0-0068)". The drive with
address 1 now displays P2. All others display the warning E4/10 "drive
not scanned or address 0".
CLC-P: The CLC-P boots up to initialilzation mode only after powering
up.

• Connect PC to interface X27 and start SynTop

Skip the possible error message from SynTop with 'ignore'.

• Switch machine into intialization mode

Via SynTop, the CLC is switched into initialization mode (menu
'extras', 'phase changeover', 'phase 0', 'close').

• Preset the parameters of the CLC with default values

The A and C parameters of the CLC are preset for all possible drives
with their default values.
To this end, parameter "command baseparameter load" (C-0-0122)
via menu 'parameter', 'single parameter' of parameter C-0-0122.
The last two bits are set to '11b' and confirmed with <RETURN>. (The
CLC then sets the bits itself back to '00b'.)
Leave the menu now with 'OK'.

• Load SAVE.ASC back into the CLC

The A and C parameters are loaded back into the CLC via menu 'file',
'load'. Note here that 'all drives' and 'A parameters' or 'C parameters'
are selected here.

Reload the I/O logic.

The newly translated I/O logic is reloaded onto the CLC with menu
'file', 'load'.

2-2 Firmware Version CLC*DP-SY*-04VRS DOK-SYNAX*-SY*-04VRS**-FVN1-EN-P

SYNAX Decentralized System for the Synchronization of Machine Axes

• Switch machine off, set jumper

Jumpers S1 and S2 are set as before.
Exception: If terminal function was on terminal X27 before, without a
set jumper, then jumper S1 must now be set.

• Switching machine on and off

The CLC parameters are now valid for all drives. SYNAX boots up into
"SYNAX - power up target mode" (C-0-0101).
The machine is now operable with the new firmware.

• Final activities
Secure the new A and C parameters on the CLC.

• Checking the functions

After replacing the firmware, carefully check the functions of the newly
equipped machine.

2.4 New functions

Profibus
In conjunction with the CLC-D daughter board DPF05.1, a profibus combi
slave connection is now possible.

INTERBUS-S
In conjunction with the CLC-D daughter board DBS03.1, an interbus S
slave connection is now possible.

CLC link
Double ring
With the help of the new daughter board DAQ02.1, the CLC link can be
constructed with a redundant double ring. The double ring guarantees
single-fault tolerance in the CLC link.

Loading default values

This function is intended for use only once at the onset of commissioning,
for example, to validate parameters after a firmware replacement.
The function "load base values" is loaded with the help of parameter
"command baseparameter load" (C-0-0122). The CLC must be in
initialization mode.
• all C parameters
• all A parameters (i.e., for drives 1...40) and
• the master axis position
are set with valid values.

DOK-SYNAX*-SY*-04VRS**-FVN1-EN-P Firmware Version CLC*DP-SY*-04VRS 2-3

SYNAX Decentralized System for the Synchronization of Machine Axes

Note: Previously set parameter contents could be lost as a result of

this function.

Emergency response 'Switching into initialization mode'

Faults that prevent the safe deceleration of a machine by the
superordinate controller will bring about an automatic emergency reaction
by the CLC. The SYNAX ring is immediately switched into initialization
mode. This reaction is triggered, e.g., by fatal communications errors in
the SYNAX ring (drive telegram failures).
As an orderly startup is not possible for control-internal reasons, entries
for phase progressions are negatively acknowledged. The CLC remains
in initialization mode and generates the diagnosis "emergency reaction
'SERCOS phase 0' - mode progression not permitted".
A restart is only possible after the CLC has been switched off and then
on.

Support of the I/O cards DEA28, DEA29, DEA30

Effective immediately, the CLC supports the CLC daughter boards
DEA28, DEA29 and DEA30. The new I/O cards can be used with
CLC-D02.1, CLC-D02.2 and CLC-D02.3.

Note: If more than one daughter board is used, then use a

CLC-D02.3.

The inputs and outputs of the new card are actuated in the I/O logic.

Supporting the DIAX04 family

The DIAX04 family with ELS firmware is immediately supported.

2.6 Changed and expanded functions

CLC link
Master axis allocation in operating mode
Parameter "CLC link - master selection" (A-0-0104) is no longer write
protected. It is now possible to allocate a following axis to a master axis in
operating mode. A change is, however, only permitted if the drive enable
is not applied to the relevant drive.

Booting up the system

The initial booting up of the CLC in the link is accelerated.

Idle
Effective immediately, idle has four selectable speeds with their own limit
values.
The selection of the active idle speed is done with the help of binary
inputs _E:F#.33 and _E:F#.34.
The binary outputs _A:F#.33 and _A:F#.34 are used to acknowledge the
activated idle speed.
All idle speeds are followed with "idle acceleration" (A-0-0012).

I/O logic
It is necessary to start with firmware version 04VRS, PARA.EXE, version
06VRS.
With the new version, external inputs and outputs can be used on the
daughter boards DEA28, DEA29 and DEA30.

2-6 Firmware Version CLC*DP-SY*-04VRS DOK-SYNAX*-SY*-04VRS**-FVN1-EN-P

SYNAX Decentralized System for the Synchronization of Machine Axes

Deactivated drive
The procedure for deactivating a defective drive has been simplified.
Deactivation is performed via axis parameter "drive deactivation"
(A-0-0006):
• A-0-0006 = 00000000 00000000: drive activated
• A-0-0006 = 00000000 00000001: drive deactivated
The current list of all deactivated drives can be read out of parameter
"addresses deactivated drives" (C-0-0086).

Winding control
The winding axis of a turning reference axis can now be halted via the
binary input "process controller pause". The current torque at the winding
axis is brought up, the winding diameter is frozen.

Interface 3964R
Transmitting data block DB0 lists
The procedure when writing long lists (e.g., cams) with data block DB0
has been changed.
• Present procedure:
Upon receipt of the final data block, the internal transmission of the list
to the drive was started. Only after the list was loaded, was the
transmission acknowledged with a reaction telegram. As long as the
internal transmission was running, the receiving channel of the 3964R
interface remained blocked. Any command telegrams received during
this time were not acknowledged by the CLC.
• New procedure:
The transmission sequence has been adapted to the procedure
already used for Siemens S5 applications. Immediately upon receipt of
the last data block, the CLC acknowledges transmission with a
positive reaction telegram. As long as the following transmission to the
drive is running, all further received command telegrams are
acknowledged with a BUSY signal.
The results of the list transmission must be checked by polling
parameter C-0-0057. Polling C-0-0057 must be repeated until there is
no longer any BUSY signal.

Transmission error
With transmission errors, the CLC sets a diagnosis (fault 140 - 142,
display 32). The fault message is cleared with the CLC input "external
CLC error - clear communications".

Physical layer RS422 for 3964R

In parameter "serial communication - control word" (C-0-0033) RS422
can be parametrized as a physical layer for 3964R.

phase progression is generated renewed, then the CLC will respond with
the fault message "phase progression still active" (fault code 0xD005).
Until now, the CLC responded with a BUSY signal.

2.9 Faults cleared

Communications error with progression in parametrization mode

If the parametrization mode has been progressed into during a parameter
transmission to a drive, then it was possible that communications to the
relevant drive broke down. The CLC then generated the diagnosis "drive
does not respond".
This fault has been cleared. The operating mode can be left, if a
parameter transmission is in progress, and the parameter transmission in
progress is completed.

Note: Depending on the duration of the parameter transmission (e.g.

cam table), the progression into parametrization mode can be
delayed.

'Ring interrupt' in initialization mode

It occasionally happened in initialization mode that a break in the fiber
optic cable was intermittently detected even though there was none.

This fault has been cleared.

DPRAM - interface (CLC-P)

Quick polling of a parameter
After a list was written, it was immediately possible to cyclically poll a
parameter (e.g., C-0-0057) which blocked the internal transmission of the
list to the drive.

This fault has been cleared.

Transmission of real-time data

The real-time data in the DPRAM may only be copied by the CLC if the
request is made by the PC.
Until now, they were copied during every SERCOS interface cycle.

This fault has been cleared.

ARCNet
Sending reaction telegrams with write access
The CLC responded to a write access via ARCNet sporadically with a
reaction telegram. No reaction telegrams may, however, be sent with
write access.

This fault has been cleared.

3.3 Notes on software installation

System prerequisites
SynTop can be operated with MS-Windows 3.1, Windows 95 and
Windows NT and makes the following hardware demands of the PC
used:
• 80486 processor or higher
• at least 8MB main memory
• at least 5MB available hard drive memory
• a free serial RS232 interface (only with serial communications)

Guidelines on software installation

Prior to installing the software, note the following points:
• Release documentation must be completely read through
• and make sure that the above referenced hardware is at hand

Note: If SynTop is to be installed on a PC on which an older SynTop

version is already installed, then the older version will remain
intact. The version number is in the directory of the installation
program. The icon is in the program group.

Any already existing parameter files (in subdirectories "PARAM") should

be copied into the new directory.

DOK-SYNAX*-SY*-04VRS**-FVN1-EN-P SynTop Version SYNTOP-INB-02VRS 3-1

SYNAX Decentralized System for the Synchronization of Machine Axes

If an older SynTop version is to be removed from the hard drive, then it

suffices to erase the directory in which the relevant "syntop.exe" is found.
This also applies to the icon in the program group.

3.4 New functions

Operating via a dual port RAM

It is now possible with a CLC-P with SY*-04VRS to communicate via an

3.5 Changed and expanded functions

Downward compatibility to SY*-03VRS

It is possible with SynTop 02VRS to parametrize SYNAX firmware of
version 03 as well as version 04. SynTop independently recognizes
automatically which firmware is given and branches into the relevant
dialogues.
This means that only one SynTop is needed for the SYNAX firmwares.

Known firmware
Currently:
SynTop has recognized drive firmware DIAX03-ELS-04VRS and DKC02-
SSE-02VRS until now and has thus supported these firmwares in the
setup dialogs. With other unknown firmware versions, a message was
generated. The user had the option with this unknown firmware to branch
into the setup dialogue of firmware version DIAX03-ELS-04VRS.

New:
SynTop additionally recognizes drive firmware DKC02-SSE-03VRS.

DOK-SYNAX*-SY*-04VRS**-FVN1-EN-P SynTop Version SYNTOP-INB-02VRS 3-3

SYNAX Decentralized System for the Synchronization of Machine Axes

If the user wants to open a dialog window of an unknown firmware

version, then it is differentiated as to whether it is a completely unknown
firmware type or an unknown version of a known firmware family. In the
first instance, SynTop branches, upon positive acknowledgement of the
message, into the setup dialog of the firmware version DIAX03-ELS-
04VRS. In the second case, the setup dialog of the corresponding
firmware family.

"Look and Feel" of the DDE server

The "look and feel" of the DDE server was adapted per Indramat
guidelines to the user interface with Windows. Help has been revised in
the event of a problem when establishing the connection as well as the
fault texts.

Online help
No online help for the drives is supplied with SynTop. The presently
available help for drives (DIAX03-ELS-04VRS and ECODRIVE-SSE-
03VRS) and SYNAX 04VRS can be separately installed. SynTop will
recognize and support them.

Setup dialogs
Menu item "Mechanical system/el. line shaft"
Menu item "Mechanics" was changed to "Mechanical system/el. line
shaft" in this dialog where the parameters for the ELS coupling unit for the
master axis is also located.

Dialog window "Position limits", "Other limits"

Dialog window "drive limits" was broken down into dialog window "Position
limits" and "Other limits".

Current loop, P and I gain

The P gain and the I gain of the current loop can no longer be edited in
the dialog"loop setting" as these parameters should not be changed by
the user.
