The Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery journal would like to announce a call for papers for the thematic
issue of Sustainable biorefinery approaches for the year 2020. While original research or review articles
specifically focused on identifying bioprocessing problems along with their respective sustainable solutions,
or on developing new processing techniques involved in the thermal, biological, or thermochemical
transformation of biomass-to-biofuels / biochemicals for the subsequent improvement of the process in
terms of enhanced environmental and economic sustainability are welcomed to be published in this
Thematic Issue of the Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery Journal, we are specifically seeking original
research papers and review articles focused on the following topics.

Topics covered include (but are not limited to):

 Identification of the key factors to reduce costs in a biorefinery,
 Identification of the key factors responsible for future environmental issues for large-scale
biorefineries,
 Multidisciplinary approaches to enhance the robustness of biorefineries,
 New low-cost and environmentally sustainable feedstocks to produce biofuels or biochemicals,
 Use of artificial intelligence approaches in process optimization, focusing on the economics and
eco-friendliness of the biorefineries,
 Integration of biomass production / processing with wastewater treatment facilities and / or to
develop technologies for conserved utilization of freshwater for biorefineries,
 Strategies to produce low-cost biomass / feedstocks using non-arable and / or waste lands and on-
site processing of the biomass to bioproducts.
