1 SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the requirements for sanitary sewage disposal systems
and septic tanks.
1.2 Sanitary sewers shall collect waste from toilet facilities, lavatories, showers and
floor drains in rest, wash and locker rooms.
1.3 Industrial (utility) sewers shall lcollect normal oily or non–oily waste water,
chemical waster, storm waste water or firewater.
1.4 Separate systems shall be supplied to the extent shown on flow diagrams and
drawings for underground utility and sewage disposal piping.
1.5 The scope excludes sewage treatment plant facilities, nevertheless in the case
of large buildings, that kind of plants shall be considered.
2.2 No paved or parking area may extend over any part of the septic tank or draining
field.
2.3 The septic tank shall be at least 2.000 mm (6.6 ft.) from any building and property
line.
2.4 The septic tank and drain tile shall be at least 20 m (66 ft.) from any fresh water
well and 10 m (33 ft.) from any underground storage tanks.
3 DESIGN
3.1 Sewer lines shall slope to discharge.
3.2 Main sewer lines shall be a minimum of 152,4 mm (6 inch) diameter cast iron soil
pipe with a maximum distance of 60 m (200 ft.) between manholes, and the lines
shall have a minimum slope of 1%. branch lines shall be a minimum of 101,6 mm
(4 inch) diameter.

3.3 Piping system shall be designed so that each branch and main can be cleaned
out, through an accessible seal.
3.5 Sewer systems shall have a minimum horizontal clearance of 1.000 mm and a
minimum vertical clearance of 250 mm between a parallel route of an
underground line containing water suitable for human consumption. In case of
crossing, the minimum vertical clearance shall be 100 mm.
The fresh water line shall be above the sewer line in any case. (Refer to article
188, chapter XXII – Gaceta Oficial No. 752).
3.6 Vents shall be provided for each sealed section to prevent syphoning of liquid seal
and accumulation of gases.
3.8 Pockets other than accessible seals and/or traps at manholes, cleanouts, catch
basins and floor drains are prohibited.
3.9 Floor drains installed for lavatories at floor levels above ground level shall
discharge into a sewage system.
4 DESIGN DETAILS
4.1 Floor drains shall be trapped.
4.2 Vents for urban and residential areas shall discharge at a minimum 1.800 mm (6
ft.) above grade for accessible locations and 150 mm (0,5 ft.) for not accessible
locations.
4.3 Vents for manholes in urban and residential areas shall discharge at least 10.000
mm (30 ft.) away from open flame and exposed transformers.
4.5 For industrial areas, the electric area classification, according to NFPA–70, shall
be taken into account for vents location.

5 INSPECTION
5.1 No installation will be approved until inspection has been made. Any work
covered before inspection must be uncovered.
