CHOOSING MEN’S CLOTHES:

TYPES OF FABRIC:

 Cotton fabric - Cotton is suitability for our country’s climate. It has a cooling effect. However,

it is easily crumpled but appeared expensive.

 Polyester fabric - Suitable for our country’s climate. Not easily crumpled and easy to iron.

 Mixed polyester fabric - Combination of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. Known as wash and

wear material.

 Silk fabric - Soft, thin and a little shining. Suitable for our country’s climate. It does not absorb and

trap heat. Suitable for formal and informal functions.

CHOOSING SHIRTS:

 The waist area should not be big and should feel comfortable in sitting position, shirt should not be

big.

 Long face and thin neck: Hind and a little wide.

 Wide face and thick neck: Lower collars

 Oval face: Lower straight

 Pattern and colours is a matter of personal choice

 Long sleeve shirts, the sleeve should be little longer than the wrist bone. If use a coat, your sleeve

should show about half an inch of the coat sleeve. If use French Cuffs sleeve, appropriate to wear

cuff links.

 The shirt-line should separate the body from the arm and the end of the line should be exactly at the

tip of the shoulders.

 Fine stripes are most suitable and easy to match with the necktie.
CHOOSING APPROPRIATE COLLARS:

1) Normal Collars - Usually short and wide or long and small. Have hard finish. Appropriate for

office and formal function.

2) Button on Collar - Buttons at the tip of the collar. Suitable for casual and business matters. Looks

fashionable and fancy.

3) Open Collar - The tip of the collar is short and wide. Suitable to be worn with wide necktie

and looks dressy.

4) Round Neck Collar - Appropriate for casual wear and can used with a pin or without.

5) Collar with Pin - A hole at the tip of the collar for inserting a pin. It is not appropriate to be used

on a wide collar or a collar with buttons.

HOW TO DRESS APPROPRIATELY?

 Button-up all buttons except for the very top button at the neck if not wearing a necktie.

 It is not appropriate to fold up the sleeves in whatever situation you may be in when wearing long

sleeve shirt.

 It is not appropriate to use short sleeve shirt if you have the necktie on, unless you cover it with a coat.

 Tie should match with the shirt you use.

 Same principles applies for the pants.

 Vertical stripes make you look slimmer.

 Horizontal stripes make you look bigger or wider.

HOW TO CHOOSE A NECKTIE?

 Find the length of it so that it would fit you and look neat.

 The best type of fabric for neckties is silk fabric, polyester, wool or cotton.

 The length should be 55 inches and the width at the tip of the tie should be 1.5 inches.

 The tip of the tie should fall on the buckle of belt.

 If you are using a coat, a tiepin must be used and it should be in the center.
CHOICES OF PATTERN:

 The normal choice would be plain colour usually dark or bright colour.

 Not appropriate to use colourful neckties especially those that have large symbols

 Do not use neckties that are faded and worn out.

CHOOSING PANTS:

TYPES OF FABRIC:

 Wool is suitable as it does not easily crumple and easy to iron.

 Polyester is also appropriate but it’s a little thin.

 Nylon is very popular, but careful when ironing as it can easily get burn as it absorbs heat.

THE CUT:

 Straight cut is most popular type of cut for men who like slacks.

 Baggy cut that is only appropriate for casual, semi or informal functions.

 Jeans are appropriate for outdoors or rough jobs and not meant for formal functions. Not appropriate

to be worn to the office or formal functions.

PATTERN AND COLOURS:

 Usually dark and plain so that it would be easy to match with the shirt, socks and shoes.

 Use pinstripes where the colours are the same if you choose pants with stripes.

 Avoid using variety of colours and big stripes.
