You are Chief Officer on MV Strathclyde, a 15175 DWT general purpose cargo
vessel, the particulars of which are shown in the accompanying stability data
booklet. The vessel has a full rig of derricks. The vessel is currently on a voyage
carrying general cargo as stated in the cargo loading sheet.

SECTION 1 & 3 must be answered in a separate answer book.

SECTION 1

Cargo and Port Operations

The ship is currently discharging a cargo of Bulk Phosphate. On completion of


discharge the vessel is to proceed to a loading berth to load a mixed cargo of
general cargo to her maximum Summer Load Draft in density 1.025.

The details of the cargo to be loaded are as per Cargo Datasheets 1and 2

1. After discharging the Phosphate, describe the preparation of the holds prior
to loading the general cargo. (10)

2. With regard to the safe and efficient loading and stowage discuss EACH of
the following;

a) the information that must be produced by the shipper prior to loading (10)

b) procedures to be followed during loading operation (8)

c) procedures to be followed during the voyage (6)

3. With reference to Cargo Datasheet 2, outline the factors to be taken into


account when deciding to separate cargo to avoid tainting of cargo. (6)

Ship Stability

1. With reference to Cargo Datasheet 1 and hydrostatic particulars of MV


Strathclyde

a) Complete Stability Worksheet No 1 (2)

c) Determine the vessels final displacement (4)

h) The final draughts fore & Aft in salt water (RD 1.025) (4)
i) Using the available data, construct the vessels curve of statical stability
for the loaded sailing condition (10)
j) Using Stability Worksheet 4, determine whether the ship complies with the
minimum intact stability criteria. (6)

SECTION 3

Ship Masters Business

1. Some of the statutory ships certificates required to be carried on board MV


Strathclyde are included in the Harmonised System of Survey and
Certification (HSSC);

a) Outline the purposes, benefits and principal features of the HSSC (5)
b) Identify those statutory ship certificates covered by the HSSC that are
required to be on board MV Strathclyde. (4)

2. In relation to the vessels charter party ;

a) outline the meaning of the term free in and out; (2)


b) outline the meaning of the term demurrage; (2)
c) Outline the use of a Statement of Facts; (2)
d) Outline the meaning of a berth charter party; (2)
e) List three conditions under which laytime may normally commence. (3)
