I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, at least 75% of the learners should be able to:
1. define the Pythagorean Theorem,
2. solve problems using the formula 𝑐 2 = 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 ,
3. appreciate the concept of Pythagorean Theorem in our daily life.

b. Discussion
Pythagorean Theorem
-the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares
of the lengths of the other two sides.
c- Longest side
b- Longer leg Hypotenuse
Opposite sides
a- Shorter leg
Adjacent sides
Example 1
3- Adjacent sides
Solution:
𝒄𝟐 = 𝒂𝟐 + 𝒃𝟐
52 = 42 + 32
25 = 16 + 9
𝟐𝟓 = 𝟐𝟓
Example 2 Example 3
Example 4
If the foot of a 25 meter ladder is placed 7 meter away from a wall, how high up the wall will the ladder reach?
Let c = 25 meter ladder
b = 7 meter away from the building
a = height of the wall will the ladder reach
Solution:
𝒄𝟐 = 𝒂𝟐 + 𝒃𝟐
252 = 𝑎2 + 72
625 = 𝑎2 + 49
𝟔𝟐𝟓 − 𝟒𝟗 = 𝑎2
ξ576 = √𝒂𝟐
𝟐𝟒 = 𝒂
