1. Enumerate the advantages of using spots/plugs for


development purposes;
2. Determine the message structure of a spot/ plug; and
3. Write radio plug scripts.

– Message conveyed through dialogue of two

– Usually, one character has problem and the
other character offers a solution
– At the end, the problematic character will be
convinced and become satisfied with the
solution offered

Straight announcement

Click Me – Simplest, easiest, and least costly to


prepare
– Message is narrated by the announcer in a
straightforward manner

recognised experts
– Health tips by a doctor or top specialist
– Agricultural information from a farmer or
an agriculturist

may have some credibility.

Testimonial

Click Me – An endorsement, usually from somebody who


has actually tried an idea or practiced a method,
or a regular person who might have seen how
something that is being promoted worked.
– A testimonial brings down the program material
to the level of regular people.

– Quick snatches of people’s voices
arranged to demonstrate the range
of views and feelings of the citizenry

Dialogue
– message is presented through a conversation

– Use two voice qualities that are distinctly
identifiable and not interchangeable
– common every day language that flows in a
conversational manner
– dialogue must excite and stimulate the audience

Jingle
– message is presented in a song or through musical form
– characteristics of popular jingles:

– Simplicity of message, melody and lyrics
– Clarity of the wordings and the idea
– Unity of the message
– Repetition of a main line
– Outstanding melodic line that lingers in the minds of listeners
– You need not create entirely new melodies for every jingle you
make. Old melodies could also be adopted.

Balagtasan
– Balagtasan derives its appeal from the fact that it is a debate
in a highly artistic verse form.
– It is delivered in an intensely emotional pitch.
– The element of conflict instinctively draws the listeners to the
dispute.
– The limited time, however, does not allow a protracted
exchange of barbs and rhetoric by the protagonists.
– The script must pick out the highlights of the issues, put them
in short interactive lines, and then immediately come to a
resolution.

– Listeners are captivated if they are placed in a
Click Me situation where they grope for answers to questions
and puzzles
– Use new ideas and interesting questions
– Use questions that are stimulating and relevant
– Avoid trifling queries and hackneyed and corny
questions
Discussion Questions:

– If you were to produce a radio spot, what type of radio


spot you will create? Why?

– Look for one radio spot available on the Internet and


indicate what type of radio spot it is. Add one to two
liners to explain why do you think that is the type of
radio spot.
