Semi-detailed lesson plans in Physics

I. OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

a. give the factors involved in determining the possible cost of electrical energy consumption

b. calculate /compute the cost of electrical energy consumed by a particular home appliance
or the entire household

c. cite ways to cut short the cost of electrical energy consumption and conserve electricity

II. LEARNING TASKS

a. Subject Matter: ELECTRICAL ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND ITS POSIBLE COST

Concepts:

1. In determining cost of electrical energy consumption the following factors need to be

considered ;number of appliances and the power ratings of certain household electrical
appliance, time of used or operating time and the charge or cost per Kwh

2. To calculate the possible cost of electrical energy consumption multiply the power ratings
with the time of used and the charge or cost of electrical energy consumed per kwh.
(Cost= P xTx Charge)
3. To conserved electricity and cut the short cost of electrical energy consumption, used certain
appliance with a much lower power rating

Process Skills:
Computing, Explaining

Social Skills:

Team Work/Cooperation

Value Focus: Thriftiness/ Electrical energy conservation

Materials:

III. Developmental Tasks

Teacher’s Activity

A. Pre-Activity
1.Prayer
2.Checking of attendance
3. Launching Game (Scrambled word Game)

Provide a chart which contains scrambled word.

student arrange them in such a way that it will

form a more understandable word.
Give the cue words acronym for electrical
cooperatives or electrical servicing companies.

They may select from any of the words posted on the board

(Student form the word)

MERALCO

Ask the students about any idea what MERALCO is?

Ask the students on what do we receive from these company
That your parents normally look for money
to pay at the end of a thirty days or a month
long period.

2. MOTIVATION

Ask the students:

Have you ever been sent by your parents to pay
your electric bill?

Though we don’t buy electricity over the counter,

we sure we are buying it each time we consume
electrical energy at home.

Ask the students if they know how electrical servicing companies compute
the possible cost of our electrical energy consumption?

Do you want to know how to compute the possible?

cost of our electrical energy consumption based on
the manner we used our appliances at home?

3. PRESENTATION

Today we will try to find out how we are

to compute the cost of our electrical energy
consumption based on how we used our electrical
appliances at home

B. LESSON PROPER

1. Activity

Group the students into three to do the activity .

Each group will be given an activity sheet, a piece of manila paper
And a pentel pen and a picture.
Each group choose a leader to lead in accomplishing
and reporting the tasks.

Before accomplishing the activity, leader of group 1 read the

activity title.
Leader of Group 2. Read the objective of
the activity.

Leader of Group 3, Read the General procedure

that follows
Ask students for clarification of activity

They are given 10 minutes to accomplish this

activity.

Teacher roams around to check and guide the students

as they perform the activity.

Analysis/Discussion

Now each group will post their work

on the board. Students post their manila paper on the board and the assigned reporter
from each group to discuss their work?

Group 1… (each group representative discusses their work)

Group 2…

Group 3…

Students compare the cost of electrical

energy consumption of each group?

What makes them different?

What makes the energy consumption cost big?

or small

Now if you wonder how you are charge by the

MERALCO with the cost of your electrical energy
consumption what are the factors you need to consider?

How are you to calculate or compute the cost of electrical

energy consumption of each appliance?
Of the entire household?
3. Abstraction/Generalization

Now I guess you have the idea how are you billed
monthly by our electrical company for the cost
of the electrical energy consumption.

Ask the students:

And how would you do it?

4. Application and Value focus

Ask students if how much they have

paid for your electric bill last month?

If you wanted to save for the cost of your electric bill.

What possibly could you do?

Ask questions and Clarifications.

C. Evaluation:

Direction: Answer the following test silently.

Encircle the letter of choice.

1. Which of the following will not affect the possible cost of electrical energy consumption?

a. length of time the appliance used

b. charge per Kwh
c. power rating of the appliance
d. design of the appliance

2. At which instance will a T.V. set consume a bigger electrical energy?

a. if it used with an eye protector
b. if it used over a long period of hours
c. if it used at night time only
d. if it used at day time only

3. If a certain appliance marked with power ratings of 1000 watts (1kw) is used for three
hours. How much will the cost electrical energy consumed if the charge per kwh is 5 pesos
a. 30 pesos
b. 20 pesos
c. 15 pesos
d. 10 pesos

4. Which of the following practice will help

Save energy cost and conserves electrical energy?

a. use many appliances at the same time

b. watch TV while doing your research on internet using your computer
c. watch TV at longer hours during night time only
d. minimize the use of appliance with high power ratings

5. Which of the following household appliance will consume a higher electrical energy?

a. a 1000 watts (1kw)karaoke used in 2 hours

b. a 0.5 kw karaoke used in 2 hours
c. a.1000 watts (1kw) karaoke used in 5 hours
d. a 0.5kw karaoke used in 8 hours

D. Assignment

List down at least five household electrical appliances you have at home and the estimated
number of hours used in a day. Thereafter determine the possible cost of electrical energy
consumption in your home if the rate per kwh MERALCO is 5 Pesos.

Write your assignment on a one half crosswise piece of paper

ELECTRICAL ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND ITS POSSIBLE COST

ELECTRICAL ENERGY AUDIT

Objective: To determine the possible cost of electrical energy consumed by each/all

appliances in the house

Procedure: Study the picture carefully and follow the procedure that follows to fill in the
necessary data in the table.

Example: Meralco charge is 5 pesos per kwh.

aircon 5 kw 4 hours 20kwh(5 pesos) 100pesos
heater 2kw 1 hour 2kwh(5pesos) 10pesos

Total=110 pesos in one day x 30 days or 1 month

=3,300 is your monthly bill

GROUP #_____________ DATE__________

Meralco charge is 2 pesos per kwh

APPLIANCES POWER RATINGS TIME/HOURS CHARGE AMOUNT IN

( Kwh) PESOS

TOTAL X 30 DAYS OR 1 MONTH

Name:______________________ Date:____________________
