1. Brief Introduction
1) Principle

SLAD series compressed air dryers are low heating regenerating, adsorptive
Separation drying equipments, utilizing molecular force on surfaces of porous medium
to adsorb water in the air, so that obtaining low dew point dry and clean compressed
air. It uses aluminum oxide as adsorbent that has similar molecular aperture with water
molecule. During the adsorption process, pressure and temperature changes to give a
better performance. At normal temperature the partial pressure of water molecules in
the air is higher than the partial pressure of water molecules in the adsorbent, so the
water molecules go to adsorbent and condensed, then became water drop on the surface
of adsorbent, then release condenser heat. This heat will be stored in the top of the
adsorption tower. In the regeneration process, 5% of the compressed air flow will be
heated to the temperature of 250℃ by the heater then flow pass the tower in
regeneration state, it will make adsorbent loss its ability of adsorption. The water
trapped in the adsorbent will be released. At the same time the stored heat in the top of
the tower will benefits for saving heating energy. The adsorbent absorbs, regenerates
and reabsorbs, makes a process circle so the passing by compressed air is dried.
The quality of these equipment have reached the same level of the products made in foreign
country, and it may be the first choice for the people who want the air dried with dew
point to –40℃ .
Two towers work alternatively and the outlet air is dry and clean its dew point can be –
40℃ and below, with very limited oil and water content to supply the user.

(4) In case of accidental equipment shut down, an air receiver is needed to give 5-10
extra minutes air supply.

3
(5) When a station has more than one compressor, non return valve and stop valve are
needed.
(6) Gauges for measuring rate of flow, temperature and pressure are needed at the
position of inlet and outlet.
(7) Every time before start up and after shut down, discharge waste water by open the
drain valve.

2. Operation Process

1) Process flow

When saturated compressed air get in A adsorption tower through the pneumatic
valve, it becomes dry at the outlet and its dew point reduced to -40 ℃, and 94-96% of
them will pass a non return valve to the outlet( or go further through dust filter to the
user end), the rest of 4-6% of the air will go heater through a restraining screen , after
being heated it go to the B tower to perform the regeneration task passes a non- return
valve. This part of heated dry air will take out most of water trapped in adsorbent, so the
adsorbent is regenerated afterwards it will discharged through a pneumatic valve to the
open air. This is half of cycle. When the next half begin B tower works as A tower will
be regenerated.

2) Programming

(1)Set Timer and temperature

Put switch SA1 on the left now the panel is on the setting state , find the 4 figure LED
display on the right side. The highest figure shows 1 means the period T0 is to be set,
rest of the figures for parameter numbers to be set. Push the button
SB2(Stop/parameter)by one time, the number displayed will increase by 1,step by step
until reach the number demanded, and if reach the top limit the number display will
reset to 000.
When you finished the setting of T0, push button SB1(Start/Code), to select period
for timer, if the highest figure of display shows 2 means set the second period T1,push
button SB2 the same way get the demanded period of time.
So by pushing button SB1 step by step, the highest figure display from 1 to 8, the
first 1 to 5 corresponding the timing period To toT4, figure 6 corresponding to heating
temperature(from 0 to 450 ℃, figure 7 for temperature keeping range(-30/+30℃)
and figure 8 for temperature compensation(-5/+5 ℃).
After all the setting are completed, push the switch SA1 to the right side means the
state of operation, and all settings will wrote in an E2 Ram. It will be kept no matter
if the power on or off.。
(2) Automatic operation
When SA1 on the right side(operation position), push power button, the equipment
will runs in sequence according to settings. Relay KA1 to KA4 acts in sequence. Red
and green LED display the operation state. The LED on the right displays the running
time of T0 and LED on the left shows the heating temperature. At the same time KA5
act at timing period of T4 , when temperature ≧set point + keeping rage, KA5
release.
When temperature ≦set point + keeping range, KA5 acts again, until the end of

2.Low inlet pressure and regulate pressure
high temperature & temperature
3.Adsorbent lose effective- Replace(normally
ness or stained 3 year )
4.Filter lose effectiveness replace

2. short adsorbent life 1. not sufficient regenerative regulate

air flow
2. silencer jammed check, repair
3. non return valve problem check, repair
4.filter core lose effectiveness replace
3.Not sufficient Controller failure check repair
regeneration time
4.Tower pressure can’t 1.Exhaust valve can’t close repair ,replace
reach high point during process
2.The load of air at outlet reduce
is too high
5. Pressure in regenerating 1.The silencer choked check, adjust
status can’t reduce 2.exhaust valve problem check, repair
3.controller problem check repair
4.solenoid valve is not open check power

5. Installation & maintenance

1). Installation
a) The dryer can be installed on a foundation with bolts, or installed without
foundation, customer may decide according the site situation.
b) During installation process, when the equipment being tightened, be sure that

7
its perpendicularity is within 1/1000.
2). Operation
a) Start up: let air go through to the towers, wait until pressure in two
Towers show the same, then put through power supply, push “Start” button,
the dryer begin works.
b) Drying the adsorbent: the adsorbent will be dried in the towers, close the
outlet valve, take out the orifice plate in the regeneration pipe, or open the ball
valve fully. Now the load of the dryer is very low, water absorbed in the
bottom is in small quantity, big air flow pass by to make regeneration, so the
adsorbent is getting dried quickly. After 24 hours process, the dew point of air
will reach the demanded point, close ball valve a little bit or put on orifice
plate, the dryer begin normal operation.
c) Fill in adsorbent or replace it: After a period of working time(normally 3
years), the dew point of outlet air may get higher, the adsorbent need to be
take out and check, in case of the adsorbent’s color changed to yellow, that
suggest it has been stained, it should be replaced. The adsorbent can be
released from a egress in the bottom of the tower, and refill on a ingress on the
top.
d) Replacement of filter core of oil eliminator: The normal life time of the filter
core is 8000-9000 hours. If the adsorbent loses it’s efficiency quickly( dew
point getting higher) that suggests the oil content of inlet air is high, the filter
core may choked and need to be replaced. At the same time check compressor
to see if its oil discharge normal.

Appendix: First time to start the dryer

1. Check if the inlet and outlet joints are connected.
2. Open inlet and outlet valve, pressure of two tower is working pressure
(0.4-0.8 Pa);
3. Check power supply, if the voltage is normal and indicator goes on.
4. Regulate the pressure reducing valve, when uses pneumatic valve, make
sure its pressure is 0.2 Mpa showed on the gauge, in case of using
butterfly valve, make the pressure is 0.4-0.7 Mpa(for first time use), in
ordinary operation just check and regulate.
5. Put the switch SA1 on the “set” position, push button SB1 to select item to
be set( the controller is preset when leave factory).
6. Put switch SA1 on “operation” side, now the controller is on operation
state, push button “Start”, the equipment begins work.
7. check displays on the panel to see if temperature, timing sequence, state
indicated, and action of pneumatic vale are normal.
8. When the outlet air too dusty, replace molecular sieve or activated alumina
partially.
9. Attention: when no air flow in the towers, start is forbidden, for that may
damage the heater.
