“CLIMATE CRISIS HITS INDONESIA”

By: Jomari Armani D. Acibar

Forest in Indonesia burnt, often known as the Indonesian haze way back on September
2019. The reason why this haze happened are because of the farmers that are too irresponsible
for looking after or taking care of the forest.
Farmers in the forest take advantage in burning trees just to get palm oil, pulp, and paper.
For the farmers, they admit it is a good and effective way because for them, it is a less hassle in
working and many products can be made out of these. But because the farmers forgets to double
check the fire in the trees, the fire become getting big. That is why, the famers asked help from
the government. Still, there is a good and a bad factor in this call. The good factor is that when
the farmers called the government, the government directly did an action just to cover up the
haze. While the bad factor there is, the fireman is lacking of workers and materials just to cover
up the haze. According to BBC news network, “The Indonesia’s National Disaster Agency, there
were 328,724 hectares of land burnt this year from January to August alone. This is such a big
problem that is being faced by their country. Not just before, but also today.

This is a very big problem that is faced by the country. According to the conversation.com,
Indonesia is currently in the throes of an environmental emergency. Thousands of hectars of
forest are burning across the vast country, causing toxic smoke to be released into the
atmosphere. In this situation, it is harmful for the people, most especially Indonesians because
the smoke of the fire is to harmful that blocks the passage way of oxygen in the lungs and could
cause respiratory problems, not just Indonesia but some of the countries as well, like the
Philippines for example, according to rappler.com, the environmental management Bureau in the
Central Visayas already issued a warning on September 18, for residents of Metro Cebu in
particular to avoid going outside or to wear protective mask s during peak hours due to unsafe
levels of PM2.5 particulates in the atmosphere. The particularly high harmful air pollutants in
Metro Cebu were caused by the toxic haze from Indonesia and the local urban pollution. In this
situation, we can say that these problems in Indonesia would affect other countries as well. This
event is a perfect example of “one for all, all for one” since one action, could create a big mistake.
