AB6 TYPE RATING TRAINING GUIDE

SESSION S8 (FFS CONFORMITY CHECK)
Index
1. SESSION OBJECTIVE
- Assessment of the ability to operate the aircraft in normal, abnormal and emergency operations to standard in accordance with SOPs and meeting the
relevant standards of accuracy.
- For an approved Zero Flight Time Training: For CAA or delegated person to check pilots’ ability to operate the aircraft in normal, abnormal and
emergency operations in accordance with the authority’s requirements before issuing of Type Rating.

2. SESSION PROFICIENCY CRITERIA

- Demonstrate ability to perform normal, abnormal and emergency procedures according to SOPs.
- Demonstrate ability to perform maneuvers required by the syllabus using the correct procedures and techniques, achieving the standard of accuracy
required by regulations.
The candidate shall demonstrate his ability to:
- Perform normal and abnormal procedures according to SOPs.
- Perform maneuvers required with smoothness, using the correct procedures and techniques, according to the standard of accuracy required by
regulations.
- Understand and apply crew coordination.
- Communicate effectively with the other crewmember.
The following limits are for general guidance:
- Height Generally ................................... ±100 feet
- Starting a go-around at decision height + 50 feet/-0 feet
- Minimum descent height/ altitude .......... + 50 feet/-0 feet
- Tracking on radio aids............................ 5°
- Precision approach ............................... half scale deflection, azimuth and glide path
- Heading
- All engines operating ....................... ± 5°
- With simulated engine failure ............ ± 10°
- Speed
- All engines operating ....................... ± 5 knots

- The applicant shall pass all sections of the FFS Conformity Check. Failure in more than 5 items will require the applicant to take the entire test/check
again. Any applicant failing not more than 5 items shall take the failed items again.
- Failure in any item of the re-test/re-check including those items that have been passed at a previous attempt will require the applicant to take the entire
test/check again.
- Further training may be required after a failed test. Failure to achieve a valid pass in all sections in two attempts shall require further training as
determined by the Check Pilot. There is no limit to the number of FFS Conformity Checks that may be attempted.
- The Check Pilot will try to run exercises in a logical sequence and make sure that the trainees understand his instructions. He shall make his own
judgment during the session and revert to his instructor role again, if required, for example when an exercise is unsatisfactorily carried out.
- Considering the ability of the trainee to fly as PNF, there is no minimum specified time for assessment.

4. SESSION GUIDE
A FFS Conformity Check scenario consists in series of exercises in a simulated commercial air transport environment. The scenario will run as a line oriented
flight in which some specific events have been inserted. These events may lead either to a return to departure or a diversion or a continuation to destination.
This will enable to check if the candidate’s decision making is appropriate for the operational situation. Pilot shall follow the departure clearance and deal with
any problems or emergencies as they occur, using the procedures and techniques learnt during the training course. Take all appropriate decisions.
Pilot will be responsible for liaison with ATC, safe operation and navigation of the aircraft. Make sure that all ATC instructions are correctly understood.
During the flight, it will be necessary for Check Pilot to initialize the simulator in order to carry out exercises. The Check Pilot should keep pilots advised when
he has control of the simulator and when he return control to pilot.
Pilots may communicate to each other in mother language to facilitate procedures, but keep ATC informed about what are doing and remember pilot must
speak English to ATC.
Treat this session as if it was a normal commercial flight. Do not waste time but do not allow yourselves to be rushed. Pilot must tell ATC what is require.
Make good use of the published documentation for en route and terminal areas. Set and observe the appropriate minima.
Make full use of the aircraft equipment and all resources at own discretion including the automation. AP should be used whenever they are available, as in
real life situation. For the purpose of the FFS Conformity Check, it is required to demonstrate pilots’ ability to fly some phases manually (i.e., 1 engine out
approach), Check Pilot will create the situation.
Remember the importance of task sharing and good crew coordination. Pilots are assessed as PF and PNF.
Use headsets. Consider Check Pilot as ATC, ground engineer and cabin crew.
The weather or aircraft parameters might vary for some sequences. Check Pilot will advise pilots of any change.
The items from “Cockpit preparation” until “After start” would be completed once for a crew. Therefore if a scenario is used as a second part of an examination
session, the scenario could start by an INIT TAKE-OFF followed by item after that.
The item "Rejected takeoff" shall be completed once by a standard crew. If the crew is composed of two Captains or 2 F/O, each shall complete it as PF.
The item "ILS approach raw data" shall be manually flown without FD but FPV is authorized.
