Application guideline of FIREMASK SQ476

1. Recommended use
Middle coat in fire-proofing coating system(indoor) to provide fire protection for plants
or facilities having steel structures. (Interior use only)

2. Guide line for coating method

1) Surface Preparation
Abrasive blast cleaning is widely accepted as being the best way of preparing a metallic
substrate (usually steel) before application of a protective coating and it is a very
important part of the whole application process. When a primer is used, blast cleaning
should be carried out in accordance with the requirements on the primer technical data
sheet.
* All surface to be coated should be clean, dry and free from dust, oil and grease,
other contaminants.
* Prior to paint application all surfaces should be assessed and treated in accordance
with ISO 8504:2000.
* Blast cleaning : SSPC-SP10 or Sa2½ (ISO 8501-1:2007)

2) Application conditions
① The surface must be completely clean and dry.
② Do not apply when relative humidity is above 85%.
③ KCC products should be applied at steel temperatures between 5 and 35℃.
④ The surface temperatures must be at least 3℃ above dew point to prevent
condensation.

3. Coating Process
1) 1st Coating
① Apply Korepox Primer EP170 at 50㎛, 1 coating by air or airless spray on surface
of the steel.
② If necessary, dilute with thinner 024 (Maximum 20% by volume)
③ Apply for the even surface without partially thick part.

2) 2nd Coating (FIREMASK SQ476)

① Remove any contaminant on the surface after at least 24hours (at 25℃, RH 85%)
passed from the 1st coating.
② Apply FIREMASK SQ476 ; A typical wet film thickness 1,000㎛ per coat is highly
recommended. Where the specified DFT is greater than 650㎛, apply two or more coats
to build up the total specified DFT.
* Applying too thick at one time(wet 1,300㎛↑) may cause crack, poor
adhesion, and delay of drying speed.
③ Keep the recoating interval of FIREMASK SQ476.
(Minimum 24 hours at 25℃,RH 85%, More than 48 hours at 5℃)
④ Prior to recoating application, any foreign substance or contamination has to be
removed completely.
⑤ If necessary, dilute with thinner 002(Summer season), 003(Winter season) is
recommended. (use Maximum 1% by volume)
* Do not use other type of thinner it makes poor film properties.(crack etc..)
* For airless spray application
Tip Range : 0.027 ~ 0.033 inch
Application guideline of FIREMASK SQ476

Output fluid pressure : 1,800 ~ 2,200 psi / 120 ~ 150 atm.

Fan : 30 ~ 60°
(Airless spray data is indicative and subject to adjustment)
※ If use Tip less then 0.027inch it may cause trouble.

3) 3rd Coating
① DFT must be checked to ensure that specified thickness has been achieved before any
top coat is applied.
② Remove any contaminant on the surface after at least 7days(winter season) and
3days(summer season) passed of the last 2nd coating.
③ Apply KORETAN Topcoat UT6581 at 50㎛
④ If necessary, dilute with thinner 037U,0624 (Maximum 25% by volume ).

4. Cautions
1) Above coating system is recommend only in case of application for structural steel.
2) Recommended storage conditions are between 5℃ and 35℃.
3) FIREMASK SQ476 coating has to be performed at more than 10℃ of ambient
temperature and under 85% of relative humidity.
4) The sub steel has to be kept at least 3℃ higher than the dew point to prevent the
condensation.
5) FIREMASK SQ476 coating must not be exposed to water(rain or snow) in application.
It must be dried on substrate or coating surface before overcoat.
In case of outdoor application, be prepare covering material for rain or snow.
