Cross-Cultural Management of Samsung

Outline

THESIS: Even though Samsung is a multinational global cross-cultural management

company, the managers should ensure that an action plan that helps in overcoming

challenges that prevent the realization of cross-cultural adaptation is eliminated.

I. Selection and recruitment of employees.

a. Managers must maintain high standards of cautiousness when making new

selections.

- Only employees that are willing to work in a place with different

culture should be hired.

b. New employees should exhibit low ethnocentrism.

- The managers must send their new employees to countries abroad that

have got a similar culture to their home country to determine their

attitude towards other cultures.

II. Managers should offer assistance and orientation to new employees.

a. New employees should be oriented and assisted on how to relate with

other employees from different cultures.

- Orienting new employees ensures that they are psychologically

prepared to embrace the new culture. Rani, Zuber, Yusoof, Zamziba,

and Toriry states that “cultural orientation is the ability to familiarize

all aspects of one’s own life in relation to someone of a different

culture, as a primary component of intercultural communication”

(2016).

b. Employees that are sent abroad for global business by the management

must be oriented on the new culture.

- Orienting employees sent overseas for official assignment eases

cultural and transition adaptation in the new country.

III. Samsung managers should promote the growth of cross-cultural skills in the

business.

a. The development plan of the employees should involve training in cross-

cultural.

- Training in cross-cultural skills enhances efficiency in cross-cultural

diversity at international ventures and within the business.

b. Programs of cross-cultural training should be integrated into the plans of

performance appraisal.

- Samsung employees will get encouraged to participate in the cross-

cultural training since a reward is guaranteed.
