Appendix 1: Apparel Brands Pty Ltd

Apparel Brands, founded in 1901, is an Australian based manufacturer and distributor of
generic clothing and footwear. The company takes orders from retailers and supplies
retailers with clothing products that have been manufactured to retailers’ specifications.
These clothing products are then sold to consumers under the retailers’ various brands.
Recently, Apparel Brands has found its market share in decline due to a strong Australian
dollar and increased overseas competition. In addition, labour costs are eating into profit
margins. Trends in the Australian textile industry suggest that the company, although it is
in a strong financial position now, will struggle to make a profit within two years.
To ensure the continued existence of Apparel Brands, the company has embarked on a
bold new strategic direction:
● develop own brands and product range and sell direct to consumers

● leverage e-commerce opportunities to reduce distribution costs and increase profit

margins.

Company vision: In the next five years, Apparel Brands will establish a range of innovative
and exciting online clothing brands and help secure a future for Australian clothing
manufacturing.

Assessment Task 1
Your team has been charged with the task of identifying an e-commerce opportunity for
Apparel Brands and developing a proposal to put to the board of directors. For example,
your team could decide to propose setting up an online business in which customers design
their own custom t-shirts.
Your budget for setting up the e-commerce venture is $30,000.
For your proposed e-commerce venture, your team will need to determine:
● Value proposition: What will you offer consumers? What products? What price? What
quality? How will the products benefit your customers?
● Who your target market is: What are the characteristics of the people who will buy
your products? What do they need or desire?
● How you will gather necessary information for setting up the venture?

● Who you will consult or network with to benefit from others’ expertise?

● What steps you will need to take to set up the e-commerce venture? This will range
from website design, to ensuring a system for payment, to establishing an online
presence through web search engines, etc.
● How you will determine the benefit to Apparel Brands: What is the benefit? Reduced
costs? Increased productivity?
● How you will determine cost?

Company vision:
Apparel Brands will create an online store with an integrated app that will sell products from
different suppliers and manufacturers (directly) and that could be possible for any customer to
interact with and share in social media.

New strategic direction:

● Establish new partnerships with a new range of manufacturers and suppliers sell directly to the
consumers and increase the market share and product availability
● Grasp e-commerce opportunities to reduce distribution costs and increase profit margins.

In today’s competitive world, online business and e-commerce have their own importance in the
market as the customers can access their mobile phones and PCs easily. It saves a lot of time for
both the customers and the business.
Previously, Apparel Brands was selling its products in-stores locations but now the company is
planning to sell its products through online platforms too.
For attracting the consumers to increase our online sales we can offer then huge discounts on
their first purchases. And we can also give them the cash vouchers which can be redeemed on
their second purchases. We will provide a fine quality of clothes. The prices will be reasonable
and affordable for everyone. There will be a return policy too. The customers can return the
products within 30 days after purchase and a full money refund will be provided.
We will make our consumers happy by helping them with their queries. We will also ask the
consumers to give feedback about the consumer service as it will allow us to know the positives
and negatives of our business. It will help us to improve our services.
We will provide products according to the latest fashion. Some special clothes will be designed
by our designers.
We can also allow our customers to design their own clothes by using customize facilities. We
will try to fulfill the entire needs of the customers so that they will feel happy after shopping
with us.
For setting the venture we have to do marketing and surveys so that according to that we can
customize our web portal. We have to understand the current scenario of e-commerce and the
needs of the people. We will take the help of consultants in an e-commerce business which helps
us in reducing the cost of setting up the venture and some necessary steps to attract the customers
because they are experts in their respective fields.
Quality means customer needs are to be satisfied. Failure to maintain an adequate quality
standard can, therefore, be unsuccessful. But maintaining an adequate standard of quality also

costs effort. From the first investigation to find out what the potential customer for a new product
really wants, through the processes of design, specification, controlled manufacture and sale.
There are a number of factors on which quality fitness of garment industry is based such as -
performance, reliability, durability, visual and perceived quality of the garment. Quality needs to
be defined in terms of a particular framework of cost.

Objectives
● To maximize the production and sales of goods Commented [MS2]: Relevant to the organization strategic
objectives.
● To achieve a satisfactory design of the fabric or garment in relation to the level of choice
in design, styles, colours, the suitability of components and fitness of the product for the
market.

Firstly understand the market according to the customers then design a web portal according to
the research. The website should be easy to use for customers. Use of search engine because it
helps in reducing the traffic and customer can easily search what he/she wants. And follow up
with the customers through SMS or E-mail in order to make them aware of the new offers or
sales. The payment system will cash on delivery, online payment through debit or credit card and
e-wallet. Full security will be provided to users who are doing online payment.

We will determine the cost according to the quality of the product and the services given by us to
the customers. Prices of the product will reasonable or a little bit above from the normal rates
because we are providing good quality products to the customers.

Our website can be searched through the online search engines so that the customer can easily
find us and start shopping with us.
The company’s website is the most important part that we need to work on. We can hire a web
design company to work on your website but if we have a limited budget, we can do it on our
own.
A good company website should have clear information about the products or services and
contact details. Avoid using flash and large images that might slow down the site and affect
visitor’s experience.
It might take a while for your website to appear in search results. So, have some patience and
work on other aspects of web presence.

Appendix 1: Apparel Brands Pty Ltd

Apparel Brands, founded in 1901, is an Australian-based manufacturer and distributor of generic
clothing and footwear. The company takes orders from retailers and supplies retailers with clothing
products that have been manufactured to retailers’ specifications. These clothing products are then
sold to consumers under the retailers’ various brands.
Recently, Apparel Brands has found its market share in decline due to a strong Australian dollar and
increased overseas competition. In addition, labour costs are eating into profit margins. Trends in the
Australian textile industry suggest that the company, although it is in a strong financial position now,
will struggle to make a profit within two years.
To ensure the continued existence of Apparel Brands, the company has embarked on a bold new
strategic direction:
● develop own brands and product range and sell direct to consumers

● leverage e-commerce opportunities to reduce distribution costs and increase profit margins.

Company vision: In the next five years, Apparel Brands will establish a range of innovative and exciting
online clothing brands and help secure a future for Australian clothing manufacturing.

Answers for task 3:

1. Consult with your manager (your assessor) to discuss issues and corrective
actions.
Now we have to talk with the manager regarding the performance of the group. The level of
completion of work and issues in doing the task in the group needs to be discussed.
Our group is facing some technical issues and some financial problems. We are unable to fix the
issues regarding designing of the website. The web page is crashed automatically while
designing it. So the manager should consult with an expert in web designing to solve the problem
ASAP. Otherwise, it will be a big problem for the customers also because they are unable to use
it properly and hard to search for the product which they want.
And the financial problem regarding the setting of server room to manage the website and
follows up the customer to update them for new offers

2. Meet with your team to resolve team performance issues and to implement
corrective actions.
We need to converse with our colleagues and take his/her contemplations to take care of the
issue ASAP. We can counsel a specialist with the goal that he/she will offer guidance to us
which will help us in present and in future moreover. Problem-solving sounds so simple.
Employees don't behave as we hope they would. Problem-solving conversations are the ones we
all tend to — or want to — avoid. Why? Because we fear — or are concerned about — how the
employees may react. In a minute we will find ways to overcome these challenging situations.
If you let the lack of performance of any one person go unaddressed because you are
uncomfortable dealing with it, you are being unfair to everyone else on the team. As a result, you
would not be fulfilling your job responsibilities as a team leader. It is your responsibility to
address any individual issues that are affecting the team's performance or morale.
While designing the website we have to keep in mind that in the near future there will increase in
the number of users in online shopping. So we have to design a web page according to it and
back up of the website when it shall crash or hang due to the many users at one time.
We should have a backup for every problem which can be in the near future. We will select the
new person according to our work and his/her qualification because then we will give the task in
the group according to it and his/her capability will help us in the completion of the task
effectively and efficiently. We can solve the financial problem by setting the limited resources in
the server room so that we can start our online business on time and when we have a fund we
will upgrade our server room. But to meet the limited resources we should try to cut the cost of
other activities.

3. Write a report to your manager describing the corrective action you have
taken to resolve the performance issues. Explain the rationale behind your
actions.
Manager Sir, we are facing some technical issues, financial problems and unskilled group
members. So our group is going to counter these problems and issues in this manner.
Firstly we are going to consult with an expert in web designing because the help and advice of an
expert will go to help us in the future also. Because in near future there can be a lot of problems
which will be faced by us due to excess users, lack of network, the website is not updated, slow Commented [MS4]: As a diploma student, a report should
have an introduction, main headings, conclusion and
loading of a webpage etc. so an expert will help us in all these issues. recommendations. Satisfactory report.

Correction is a reaction to a problem or undesired situation to provide an immediate remedy to

save a situation. The correction related action gives no guarantee on fixing the cause of the
problem and hence the recurrence of the problem is very likely.
To counter the financial problem we are just setting the server room with limited resources. We
will upgrade our server room when we have sufficient funds till then we have to fix the number
of users on a webpage at one time otherwise the webpage will hang or crashed then it will have
become a big problem for us. So we will give access to limited users at one time. The third
problem we are facing is that our group has some unskilled members so due to them the process
of the whole group is slowing down and it will become hard to complete the task on time. So we
are replacing some unskilled group members with some skilled persons. So that we will get the
speed in the task. And the task is done in an innovative manner which saves our time and money.

Reviewing the team member’s performance:

The process of evaluating team performance after a project is often overlooked – especially after
success. After working hard to complete the project, the last thing a team leader wants to do is go
back through each detail. Unfortunately, evaluation is a crucial part of moving forward and Commented [MS5]: Good strategies to monitor the team
members performance.
ensuring that the processes can run even better the next time around. It is considered as a revisit
project goal, interview each team member, listen carefully, identify the key challenge.

Implementing quality processes to ensure compliance:

Executing a quality administration framework as much workmanship as it is a science. It takes
information, yet it additionally requires the capacity to connect with individuals. It adopts a
methodological strategy, but at the same time is requires inventiveness.

Setting clear performance :

All together for your business to flourish, your worker execution needs to exceed expectations.
It's insufficient for your staff to just finish their obligations, they need to finish them as well as
could be expected while fulfilling your guidelines. So as to explain for your group what sort of
execution you're searching for, it's basic to set clear worker execution measures.
