Performance objective
For this task, you will demonstrate the skills and knowledge required for establishing a
team performance plan.
Assessment description
In response to a simulated business scenario, you will build a work team, help assign
responsibilities for a team project, develop a performance plan, and support team
members to carry out assigned responsibilities. You will develop and propose strategies to
ensure each team member participates in the project planning and develops policies and
procedures for carrying out teamwork.
In your workbook, there are many website links that are recommended. It would be useful
to you to search some of these.
The text book “COLE” Chapter 10 and Chapter 13 are good readings to aid you with your
work.
Procedure
1. Review the simulated workplace information for Apparel Brands Pty Ltd in
Appendix 1.
2. In consultation with your assessor you are required to:
a. form a team
b. agree to meet to discuss team objectives and develop performance plans for
each team member.

Assessment Task 1
Your team has been charged with the task of identifying an e-commerce opportunity for
Apparel Brands and developing a proposal to put to the board of directors. For example,
your team could decide to propose setting up an online business in which customers design
their own custom t-shirts.
Your budget for setting up the e-commerce venture is $30,000.
For your proposed e-commerce venture, your team will need to determine:
● Value proposition: What will you offer consumers? What products? What price? What
quality? How will the products benefit your customers?
● Who your target market is: What are the characteristics of the people who will buy
your products? What do they need or desire?
● How you will gather necessary information for setting up the venture?
● Who you will consult or network with to benefit from others’ expertise?
● What steps you will need to take to set up the e-commerce venture? This will range
from website design, to ensuring a system for payment, to establishing an online
presence through web search engines, etc.
● How you will determine the benefit to Apparel Brands: What is the benefit? Reduced
costs? Increased productivity?

Once you have determined the above requirements, your team will need to plan specific

Recently, Apparel Brands has found its market share in decline due to a strong Australian dollar
and increased overseas competition. In addition, labour costs are eating into profit margins.
Trends in the Australian textile industry suggest that the company, although it is in a strong
financial position now, will struggle to make a profit within two years.
To ensure the continued existence of Apparel Brands, the company has embarked on a bold new
strategic direction:
● develop own brands and product range and sell directly to consumers
● Leverage e-commerce opportunities to reduce distribution costs and increase profit
margins.

Your team has been charged with the task of identifying an e-commerce opportunity for
Apparel Brands and developing a proposal to put to the board of directors. For example,
your team could decide to propose setting up an online business in which customers design
their own custom t-shirts.
Main goal:
The Apparel Brands Pty Ltd identified an opportunity to launch an e-commerce online store
aiming to be more competitive, to raise the market share and create more revenue for the
company.
Company vision:
Apparel Brands will create an online store with an integrated app that will sell products from
different suppliers and manufacturers (directly) and that could be possible for any customer to
interact with and share in social media.
In today’s competitive world, online business and e-commerce have their own importance in the
market as the customers can access their mobile phones and PCs easily. It saves a lot of time for
both the customers and the business.
Previously, Apparel Brands was selling its products in-stores locations but now the company is
planning to sell its products through online platforms too.
For attracting the consumers to increase our online sales we can offer then huge discounts on
their first purchases. And we can also give them the cash vouchers which can be redeemed on
their second purchases. We will provide a fine quality of clothes. The prices will be reasonable
and affordable for everyone. There will be a return policy too. The customers can return the
products within 30 days after purchase and a full money refund will be provided.
We will make our consumers happy by helping them with their queries. We will also ask the
consumers to give feedback about the consumer service as it will allow us to know the positives
and negatives of our business. It will help us to improve our services.
We will provide products according to the latest fashion. Some special clothes will be designed
by our designers.
We can also allow our customers to design their own clothes by using customize facilities. We
will try to fulfill the entire needs of the customers so that they will feel happy after shopping
with us.
For setting the venture we have to do marketing and surveys so that according to that we can
customize our web portal. We have to understand the current scenario of e-commerce and the
needs of the people. We will take the help of consultants in an e-commerce business which helps
us in reducing the cost of setting up the venture and some necessary steps to attract the customers
because they are experts in their respective fields.
Quality means customer needs are to be satisfied. Failure to maintain an adequate quality
standard can, therefore, be unsuccessful. But maintaining an adequate standard of quality also
costs effort. From the first investigation to find out what the potential customer for a new product
really wants, through the processes of design, specification, controlled manufacture and sale.
There are a number of factors on which quality fitness of garment industry is based such as -
performance, reliability, durability, visual and perceived quality of the garment. Quality needs to
be defined in terms of a particular framework of cost.

We will determine the cost according to the quality of the product and the services given by us to

Procedure
1. Review the simulated workplace information for Apparel Brands Pty Ltd in Appendix 1.
2. Carry out all tasks contained in the individual performance plan you developed in Assessment
Task 1.
3. Consult with your team and assessor to determine an appropriate time for your teamwork to be
observed in a team meeting. This will be carried out as an observation from your assessor

4. Prepare and plan for the team meeting:
a. Reflect on your achievement of team goals: Which goals have you achieved? Which goals
have you not achieved? You may wish to put this in a table.
b. Identify at least one issue you have encountered with respect to carrying out your tasks
that you have not yet fully overcome to discuss with your work team so that they may
assist you in enhancing your performance.You may wish to put this in a table.
c. Consider possible processes for resolution of team issues. For example, you may consider
leading a brainstorming session, or creating an issues matrix.
d. In consultation with team, develop a meeting agenda to ensure that all issues, concerns
and problems with carrying out performance plan activities are addressed in the meeting
in order to keep team on track to achieve goals. The agenda should include opportunity
for each team member to employ a process for resolution of team issues. Provide the
meeting agenda to participants (i.e. other team members) and assessor.
e. Prepare to take notes on issues and solutions and any unresolved issues.

5. Participate in the team meeting with your assessor:
a. Present your achievement of team goals and issue/s encountered in a clear and concise
manner within the meeting.
b. Provide feedback to team members to encourage and reward efforts and build team
cohesion. State what has been achieved well and what has not. Take a positive approach
when about the negative.
c. Ask questions and encourage team members to contribute to meeting. All team members
are required to take part.
d. Lead or play a prominent role in a process to resolve team issues. Ensure you clearly signal
each step in the process and explain your methods to model effective team behaviour to
emulate. Each team member is required to take a leadership role.
e. Identify performance problems and propose solutions during the resolution process to
resolve team issues to keep on track to achieve goals. If applicable, you may suggest
coaching, training etc. this is performance based on how the team is performing and what
needs action attached to it.
f. Work through any issues that can be resolved during the meeting with team members.
This is about problem solving and accommodating the team while being assertive about
the direction the team is wanting to move forward in.
g. Record notes on issues and solutions and any unresolved issues. Note unresolved issues
or improvements to group work that you will propose later, after consultation with the
manager(assessor).You may wish to put this in a table.

Assessment Task 2
Now that your team has completed individual performance plans, your new task is to carry out all the
actions contained in your performance plan to enable the team goal of developing an e-commerce
venture proposal for presentation to the board of Apparel Brands.
You will need to meet to discuss achievement of individual goals and provide feedback on others’
work. You will need to work through and resolve any issues with your team in order to achieve your
team goal/s.
After preparing the performance plan it is necessary to start the plan on time so that the
predetermined targets can be achieved.
In the performance plan, every team member will be assigned a task which they have to
do in the given time to attain the overall goal of the business.
No disputes should be there in the group members and every group member will help
each other to attain the objective of the group.
If every individual performs in a perfect manner then it increases the efficiency of the
group.

manager on the steps taken to resolve the performance issues.
Procedure
1. Review the simulated workplace information for Apparel Brands Pty Ltd in Appendix 1.
2. Initiate a meeting with your manager (the assessor) to ensure you obtain advice from outside
the work team.
3. Consult with your manager (the assessor) to discuss team performance issues. Use your notes
from Assessment Task 2 to provide the basis for this discussion.
4. Discuss your own solutions to improve team performance and achieve team goals. During your
consultation with your assessor:
a. note suggestions from your manager (the assessor) to implement with team/individual
team members
b. note any information provided by your manager to be given to team members. (action
plan for the future)
5. Meet with team members to resolve performance issues as discussed with the manager. For

Now we have to talk with the manager regarding the performance of the group. The level of
completion of work and issues in doing the task in the group needs to be discussed.
Our group is facing some technical issues and some financial problems. We are unable to fix the
issues regarding designing of the website. The web page is crashed automatically while
designing it. So the manager should consult with an expert in web designing to solve the problem
ASAP. Otherwise, it will be a big problem for the customers also because they are unable to use
it properly and hard to search for the product which they want.
And the financial problem regarding the setting of server room to manage the website and
follows up the customer to update them for new offers

We need to converse with our colleagues and take his/her contemplations to take care of the
issue ASAP. We can counsel a specialist with the goal that he/she will offer guidance to us
which will help us in present and in future moreover. Problem-solving sounds so simple.
Employees don't behave as we hope they would. Problem-solving conversations are the ones we
all tend to — or want to — avoid. Why? Because we fear — or are concerned about — how the
employees may react. In a minute we will find ways to overcome these challenging situations.
If you let the lack of performance of any one person go unaddressed because you are
uncomfortable dealing with it, you are being unfair to everyone else on the team. As a result, you
would not be fulfilling your job responsibilities as a team leader. It is your responsibility to
address any individual issues that are affecting the team's performance or morale.
While designing the website we have to keep in mind that in the near future there will increase in
the number of users in online shopping. So we have to design a web page according to it and
back up of the website when it shall crash or hang due to the many users at one time.
We should have a backup for every problem which can be in the near future. We will select the
new person according to our work and his/her qualification because then we will give the task in
the group according to it and his/her capability will help us in the completion of the task
effectively and efficiently. We can solve the financial problem by setting the limited resources in
the server room so that we can start our online business on time and when we have a fund we
will upgrade our server room. But to meet the limited resources we should try to cut the cost of
other activities.

members. So our group is going to counter these problems and issues in this manner.
