Understanding BHAGAVAD GITA

Submission -01 Date: 21-Dec-2019

 Values are actually our strongly hold priorities and believes we make based on the
information we get or acquire.
 Values and believes together make our Attitude and Attiude makes our Behaviour.
 Attitude can be:

Positive
Attitude

Negative

Neutral

 Positive Attitude: When we have information about a person, which matches with our
values and believes then we reflect a Poistive Attitude towards him.
 Negative Attitude: When we have information about a person, which doesn’t matches
with our values and believes then we reflect a Negative Attitude towards him.
 Neutral Attitude: When we meet a completely unknown person first time we reflect a
Neutral Attitude towards him.
 If the attitude is negative due to wrong belief, it can be corrected by authentic data from
credible source. But if attitude is negative due to wrong value itself, then it is value
conflict, which is a complex problem.
 Very often we change our believes when we get information, which are more authentic or
from a very credible resource. Therfore beilief conflits at workplaces can be avoided by
providing information, which are more authentic.
 Values we hold can be catogrised in two types,
I. Terminal Values:- “what we want to achieve”
II. Instrumental Values:- “How we want to achieve”

Values

Terminal Value Instrumental Value

“Results that we “Process Oriented”
want”
Honesty
Money
Kindness
Power
Punctuality
Health
Truthfulness
Status
Promotion
 Terminal values we can derive from instrumental values All values are not equal, they are
relative. We give one value priority over the other. Some values are strong and some values
are weak. Strong values cannot be traded. But in case of weak values, tradeoff takes
place. Tradeoffs are realities of life. True test of values takes place, only when there is an
opportunity to tradeoff, only then you discover true priorities.
 In an organisation resolving values mismatch is very difficult. We might come across two
types of value mismatch situations
o Strong values mismatch: In such situations we resolve this issue by ‘Staffing’,
 Transfer such people to different department where those strong values have
not significance or
 Remove/Fire them from the organisation.
o Weak hold values: Here we need Continous monitoring, Different aspects of
continous monitoring are
 When to monitor? – Continuous Monitoring
 Who should monitor? – By Peers
 What to monitor?
The answer is every organization defines its own values. It defines values
in terms of- DO’S and DON’T’S.

Chapter 18: Text 78

“Yatra Yogesvarah krsno yatra Partho dhanur-dharah

Tatra Srir vijayo bhutir dhruva nitir matir mama”

Sanjay tells his king Dhritrastra that “where there is Krishna –who removes dilemma and Arjuna-
having wonderful capabilities of walking on the path told by Krishna, Victory will be certainly
there”. Sanjay was so sure about this fact that he never hesitated to tell the truth to his own king,
who was expecting the opposite result.

 Krishna is one – who removes your dilemma. Tells you what is wrong and what is right.
Show you the right path.
 Arjuna symbolizes us, the capability of doing. When we get into dilemma, we need
somebody to tell us the right path. This type of dilemma occurs very often in our lives.

 In this above shlok there are 26 instrumental values are mentioned, which are being
anlayzed as
1. Fearlessness (Abhayam): Fear will dilute self efficacy of at workplace so
fearlessness is important. Fear will also not let us enjoy anything so to really feel
the pleasure of life we must be fearless, which can be achieved by removing cause
of fear by knowing which is right and which is wrong.
In human mind, If an event is 100% sure to happen then it creates anexiety. But
when event is uncertain (which you donot like and badly want to avoid), creates
fear.
Fear is all about future so one of the solutions can be- Live with present.
Be innosense(taking straight route) and stay infromed can help individuals to get
rid from fear in certain situations.

Sometimes violation of instrumental values cause fear so it is advisable to adhere
instrumental values.
When mind starts controlling individual it becomes biggest enemy. Through
meditation we can control mind and it will help individual to eleminate fear.
2. Purification of one’s existence: In a given context, follow rules and regulation.
When I am pure, I will follow rules in letter, spirit and path of morality.
There can be a possibility that society becomes immoral- It is the best time when
individual gets an opportunity to bring right moral value (By Lord Krishna)

Chapter-1 Text 1
धृतराष्ट्र उवाच |
धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे सर्वेता युयुत्सवः |
र्ार्काः पाण्डवाश्चैव ककर्कुवमत सञ्जय ||1||
The word Dharmakhetra refered to land of dharma where right will win. The word
Kurukhetra refered as individual’s mind where most of the time dilemma exits
which to select between strong and week values.

3. Cultivation of Spiritual Knowledge (Jnana yoga vyavasthitih): It is about

knowing ourselves (connectedness). Before giving suggestions on a problem, we
should understand it. It will be difficult to select choices in mind without
understanding ourself.
