Area
Teaching Quarter FIRST
Date and
Time
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The students demonstrate an understanding of work using constant
force, power, gravitational potential energy, kinetic energy, and
elastic potential energy
B. Performance Standards The students shall be able to develop a written plan and implement a
“Newton’s Olympics”
C. Learning Competencies The students should be able to describe how work is related to power
(Write the LC code for each) and energy;
S8FE-Ic-21
Learning Objective/s The students should be able to describe how work is done; calculate
work
II.CONTENT
Unit 1: Module 2: Work and Energy
Lesson 1: “Work”
III.LEARNING RESOURCES

IV. PROCEDURES
A .Reviewing previous lesson or Let the students who is in the picture, and tell what they do.
presenting the new lesson
(MOTIVATION) (5 mins)
(AP- 5 mins)
Possible Answers:
GROUP 1: A boy is pulling her toy car.
Possible answer:
Yes, the situation is an example of work. The work is done by the girl
on the cart. The force exerted by the girl in pulling the toy car is in the
same direction as the distance covered when the force is applied.
GROUP 2: A man is lifting a box to be placed on a table.
Possible answer:
Yes, the situation is an example of work. The work is done by the man
on the box. The force exerted by the man is upward and the box is
displaced upward.
GROUP 3 : A girl carrying a bag walks down the street.
Possible answer:
No, the situation is not an example of work. There is force (the
shoulder pushes up the bag) and there is displacement (the bag is
moved horizontally). However, the line of action of the force and the
displacement are not parallel but perpendicular. The distance covered
is not along the direction of the applied force.
GROUP 4: A mango fruit falling from the branch
Possible answer:
Yes, the situation is an example of work. The work is done by the
force of gravity on the mango.
E. Discussing new concepts and How to calculate Work:
practicing new skills (ACTIVITY Work is done when the force (F) applied to the object causes the
2) (10 mins) object to have a displacement (d) in the same direction as the force
applied, thus;
Work = force x displacement.
where; ;
Force (F) = Newton (N) Displacement (d) = m
Work (W) = Nm or Joules (J)
Sample problem:
1. Aling Lucing is pushing her grocery cart with a 90 Newton force
along the 7 meters aisle, how much work is done in pushing
the cart from one end of the aisle to the other?
Given: Force = 500 N displacement = 7 m
Asked: Work
Solution: 𝑊ork = Force x 𝑑displacement
𝑊 = (90 𝑁) (7 𝑚)
𝑊 = 630 𝑁𝑚 or 𝑊 = 630 𝐽oules
2. Buboy, a Boy Scout student was assigned to raise the Philippine
Flag during the flag ceremony. He pulled the rope using 8 N of
force in a horizontal distance of 40 m high. How much work
done by Buboy?
Given: Force = 15 N displacement = 40 m
Asked: Work
Solution: 𝑊ork = Force x 𝑑displacement
𝑊= (15 N) (40 m)
W= 600 Nm or W = 600 Joules
F. Developing mastery Let the students do their Activity assigned to their group.(3 mins)
(Leads to formative assessment) For Group 1 and 2:
(ANALYSIS) (10 mins) Mang Victorino, a seller of cooked sweet corn pushes his cart
(3 mins) using 180 N force in 25 m. distance. Look for the work exerted by
Mang Victorino.
