TITLE: More Miles to Go to End TB: Innovative Approaches and Technologies for Private Sector
Engagement TB Prevention and Care
PARTICIPANTS: healthcare providers in the public and private sector, National TB Control
Program (NTP) staff from national, regional, and LGU levels engaged in private sector
engagement, TB laboratory staff, professional organizations, consultants/experts, and civil
society and community-based organizations
DESCRIPTION: The Philippines has the 4th highest TB incidence in the world contributing to 6%
of the global TB burden, next to Indonesia (8%), China (9%), and India (27%) according to the
2018 WHO Global TB Report. Public-Private Mix (PPM) for TB care and prevention represents a
comprehensive approach for systematic involvement of all relevant healthcare providers in the
continuum of TB care, from screening to prevention, as significant partners in the delivery of
quality TB care consistent with international standards and national guidelines. However, many
providers from the private and even the public sector remain unengaged and are not reached
by the national TB program; hence, the “missing cases” that may be under their care are
unreported. Nearly all high-burden countries are implementing PPM activities, at various scale
and scope; some countries have accelerated in their TB elimination efforts, while others have
not demonstrated decline in prevalence.
PURPOSE: This session will showcase different regional and international innovative
technologies and approaches that can optimize TB screening, testing, treatment monitoring,
and notification among private sector.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1. Appreciate the value of private sector engagement in End TB Strategies
2. Appreciate innovative modalities and tools in TB screening, testing, treatment, and
notification
3. Understand the science and art of sustaining private sector engagement through
governance and financing in the context of service delivery network.
