ULMA used the ATR Self-Climbing System as inner shaft shuttering. Consisting of two sub-structures, the concrete placing
boom and the formwork, the entire assembly climbed up altogether driven by the same hydraulic power unit.

With the MK system, consisting of walers, high-load capacity structures are set up for the support of the climbing
equipment.

Despite of limited space for both structures, ULMA installed on 18 m² a

The 236 m high SyV Tower has 59 floors with 1,600 m² each to which must be added further 6 underground
basements of 7,500 m². This project is located in northern Madrid and completes one of the most unique urban
development plans of the city.

The lift shaft was built with ULMA’s most advanced

technology for the construction of skyscrapers - the
Self-Climbing ATR System - in this case supporting the
structure from the 6th floor onwards.

The ATR-B system outside and ATR-P system inside,

combined with wall formwork ENKOFORM V-100, enabled
the construction of large vertical walls with changing and
complex geometry.

The execution cycle of works was less than a week per

floor.

The concrete placing boom attached to the inner

structure was lifted along with the self-climbing platform.

With 142 m height and 42 floors, the Upsite Tower is the tallest residential building in Belgium and the first
skyscraper built in Brussels in the last 30 years.

Site requirements were challenging: complex façade,

interconnected inside shafts, changing floor geometry,
limited use of crane...

ULMA supplied a complete solution including the ATR

Self-Climbing System, the HWS perimeter protection (with
assembly service and on-site assistance) and aluminium
slab formwork.

Both the self-climbing structure and the perimeter

protection were designed with the MK system, capable of
setting up customised structures for any client or project.

Apart from flats, it will also accommodate offices, car park and individual
parking spaces, restaurants, shops, etc.…

The core of the building was built with the ATR Self-Climbing System and narrow platforms for inside shafts. ULMA’s
versatile beam-based vertical formwork was used.

Architect: Toyo Ito

The two towers were designed by the renowned architect Toyo Ito and play a particular role: one is a 130 m high
hotel and the other a 135 m high office building with more than 40,000 m² floor area.

The ATR Self-Climbing System was adapted to the circular

and rectangular geometries of each building from the
underground floors on.

Productivity and efficiency of the system became

apparent in the fast pace of work, in this case, a complete
plant of 700 to 1,300 m² each 5 to 6 days in both
buildings.

This system with ENKOFORM V-100 formwork enabled the

construction of 3.84 m typical wall height between slabs
with respect to the hotel and 4.14 m in the case of the
office building.

When it comes to more than 130 m tall buildings with about 28 floors,
a system capable of doing a fast, safe and quality job at height is
required

Structure of the hotel tower and layout of formwork gangs

The cylindrical-shaped core of the hotel building has a diameter of 13 m and a wall thickness of 40
cm. It was built inside, with a platform and outside with brackets, both self-climbing. Furthermore,
the rotation effect was obtained through the changing area of 700 to 1000 m² from one floor to
the next

This 55 storey office skyscraper is considered one of the most environmentally friendly buildings,

The core was built 6 to 8 levels below

the structure of the building (steel

ATR self-supporting structure was
assembled at the beginning of the
construction, and the first 8 levels
were built around that structure
before starting to build the core with

The ATR system increased productivity by carrying out
different tasks simultaneously. The ATR, unlike
conventional climbing systems, reduces the requirement
for crane time considerably, moreover to quick and easy
methods of operation.

The Trade Fair and Congress Centre of Kielce is a four-storey building with underground car park that can
accommodate more than 1,000 people. Its most striking architectural feature is the 44 m high lookout tower with
banquet hall.

Two of the 90 cm thick parallel outside walls were built

with the ATR-B Self-Climbing System because the two
remaining 15 and 25 cm thick walls had protruding
structural steel elements.

The entire system rested on four ATR self-climbing

brackets, which made up a large working platform and
held the wall formwork.

In the different pouring stages, the MK structure and the

ATR system were displaced upwards simultaneously with a
hydraulic leverage system. 15 to 20 minutes only took the
climbing process from one level to the next.

This 204 m tall building with 57 floors records to have the most wanted and expensive square metres in town. Its
location in the city centre required additional safety measures. This is the first construction project where the
self-climbing HWS Hydraulic Windshield System has been employed.

The Four Seasons Hotel is located in the heart of Yorkville known for being a venue for cultural events

HWS ensured workers’ safety and provided space for the storage of material needed in the
construction process of the building

The protective screens around the building perimeter serve the dual purpose
of providing safety for the slab under construction and the next two, and
platforms for access and storage.

Moreover, the health and safety of passers-by is ensured on the busy streets
surrounding the building, since its geometry is specifically designed to prevent
objects originating from the use of large slab formwork tables from falling over
the edge.

22
Different HWS screens

In this project, inclined panels with built-in storage

platforms were used to enable the moving of already used
material to other floors. A mobile hydraulic power unit
avoided the use of cranes for the climbing of the screens
and other materials resulting in significant time and cost
savings.
