Foreword
This manual is organized in a progressive sequence for easy study and reference. It is an
instructional aide to provide a reference for easy servicing and maintenance of the
analyzer. It contains detailed description of the analyzer features, specifications, PCB
layouts, wiring diagrams, trouble shooting and replacement procedures.

Use of this manual along with proper training will ensure better serviceability,
maintenance and trouble free analyzer operation with optimum performance.

Before servicing the analyzer, service engineer should:

1. Read and understand this manual.

2. Be trained by authorized person.

3. Be familiar with the operation of the analyzer.

1. OVERVIEW OF ANALYZER
1.1. INTRODUCTION
The LisaScan EM is an 8-channel Micro well plate reader for Quantitative,
Qualitative and Semi Quantitative (mixture of both) determination of wide range of
analytes in body fluids.
Unique features of the analyzer are:
 It is a 96 well micro plate reader with a large built-in graphic LCD display
and Thermal Printer.
 Operation is through a non-tactile keyboard with quick shift from one
function to another without going through complex sequential operations.
 It is provided with memory of 100 programmable tests and 480 well’s (5
plates) results.
 The analyzer is provided with a 320x240 dots backlight liquid crystal display
with alphanumeric and graphic capabilities.
 User can take a Printout of Collated Report by Date wise or ID wise or both
by Date & ID wise or Test wise or Plate ID wise or by both Plate ID & Date
wise and ID wise with Demographic.
The software is complete with the device diagnostics self-test function capable of
providing timely flag / error messages related to Test results or analyzer
malfunctioning.

2. SAFETY
This section provides safety information about analyzer. Use this product properly
and safely to prevent injuries and or damage to property. User must read these
safety precautions before installation/use and follow the directions.
 Only qualified personnel should use the analyzer.
 While operating, maintaining, servicing or repairing the analyzer, follow all
the procedures described in this manual.
 Always ensure that mains switch is OFF while connecting or removing or
servicing the analyzer.
 Observe all WARNINGS and CAUTIONS posted on the system or
described in this manual.
 Avoid contact with all electrical circuits of analyzer; observe CAUTIONS
posted on the analyzer.
 Never use substitute parts on the analyzer or modify it in any way.
 Keep the analyzer out of the rain and any other water splash. Pay attention
to inclination, vibration, shock etc.
 During the operation photometric lamp becomes extremely hot. DO NOT
look directly into the light path of the lamp when it is ON. DO NOT touch the
lamp when it is ON.
 If the lamp needs to be changed, always switch off the lamp by switching off
the analyzer and then wait for minimum 10-minutes, until lamp has cooled
down.
 Avoid using dangerous flammable material around the analyzer. Fire or
explosion may be caused by ignition.
 Avoid areas that are adversely affected by atmospheric pressure,
temperature, humidity, ventilation, sunlight, dust and air containing salt,
sulfur, etc.
 Operator is responsible for taking all necessary precautions against hazards
associated with the use of clinical laboratory chemicals. Specific
recommendations for each reagent used with the analyzer are normally
found on the manufacturer’s package inserts or on product information
sheets for each chemical. Wipe up any reagent spillage on the analyzer
immediately.
 Pay attention not to exceed time and volume necessary for diagnosis. Keep
monitoring the behavior of whole system in order to detect any malfunction.
 Take immediate corrective measures including shutdown of operation when
any malfunction is detected in the analyzer.

 In the event of trouble, do not play with the analyzer and leave any repair
work to an authorized expert.
Caution: NEVER OPERATE ON A WET OR DAMP SURFACE.

3.3. KEYBOARD DESCRIPTION

KEY DESCRIPTION
These are multifunctional keys. Each key is used for
entering a number seen on the key and up to three
alphabets in upper and lower case .E.g. The numeric key
<1> is used to enter/select an alphabet or the number in
the following sequence 1, A, B, C, a, b, c following each
press.
Decimal point is used to enter the concentration and
absorbance value in calibration table. It is also used to
enter appropriate value in cutoff equations for qualitative
assays.

Negative sign is used to enter the absorbance value in


calibration table. It is also used for cutoff equations for
qualitative assays.

 Paper feed key is used to Advance the paper when


new paper roll is inserted.
 It also used to advance the paper whenever printing
is functional.

This key is used to reset the instrument without resetting


the memory. Reset key is not active while test Run is in
progress. But it is active while editing the parameters for
the test.

4. INSTALLATION
4.1. INSPECTION
The analyzer is tested before shipment and is packed carefully to prevent any
shipping damage. It is user’s responsibility to inspect all cartons upon arrival and
notify the carrier for any apparent damage. Follow the steps described in the
paragraphs below to install the analyzer.

4.2. UNPACKING
The main unit and accessories like power adapter, power cord is packed in single
cartons. The representative is responsible for unpacking, installing and initial
setting up of the analyzer.

4.3. INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS


The proper location is an important consideration; a poor location can lead to
malfunction of the analyzer. Please follow our environmental and electrical
suggestions to ensure the accuracy and precision of the analyzer and to maintain
high level of safety for your personnel.
Since the analyzer is comparatively smaller, it can be comfortably accommodated
on any standard sized table.

Remember that a minimum 30cm space is maintained between the Rear, Left
panel and the wall to allow for heat dissipation.
PROBLEMS resulting from the relocation of the analyzer done by
unauthorized service representative are not covered under warranty.

4.4. ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS


Voltage and Single phase continuous stabilized AC 230/115 volts ±10%, 50 / 60
Frequency Hz.
Grounding Perfect earthing must be provided at power source with all applicable
local requirement (A grounded, power plug only should be used. The
voltage between earth and neutral should not exceed 5 V).
Plug Points 3 Nos. of 5 Amps sockets should be available near the mounting
desks. (Normally only one socket is required per analyzer and 2 extra
sockets are recommended for using any measuring equipment and
engineering tool if required while servicing.) Failure to properly
ground the analyzer bypasses important safety features and may
result in an electrical hazard. Heavy duty electrical devices like Air-
conditioners, Refrigerators, Oven, Centrifuge etc., should not be
operated on the same electrical lines as the analyzer.

4.5. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE


1. Unpack the analyzer and other accessories from the box.
2. Check for any physical damage. In case of any damage, report it to your
local branch immediately. If everything is found OK then, continue to step 3.
3. The Analyzer is equipped with an external AC power adapter (also referred
as SMPS) and the power cord for the External AC adapter.
4. Proper use of the appropriate power cord assures adequate grounding for
the system. Failure to properly ground the analyzer bypasses important
Safety features and may result in an electrical hazard.
5. Connect the power cord of the external SMPS to the mains socket & check
the output of the SMPS, it should be 18V DC ± 5%.
6. Put the output end of the Power cord in the socket provided at the rear of
the instrument.
7. Switch ON the mains supply and then switch ON the instrument by ON/OFF
switch provided on the SMPS.

4.6. PRINTER HOUSING AND PRINTER PAPER


INSTALLATION
4.6.1. INTERNAL PRINTER INSTALLATION
The thermal printer is housed inside the chassis. It is an extremely low noise
printer. When an improper installation (printer lever is not pressed downward) of

paper is detected, an audible alarm in the form of beeps is sounded and the
message “-TP-” is displayed on the screen.
Warning: BEFORE REMOVING THE COVER, SWICTH OF THE
POWER SUPPLY.

Refer below Figure 1 for proper routing of Thermal Printer Paper roll.

NOTE: The thermal paper used must match the specification of the original one,
since the calibration of the working temperature is optimized for that kind of paper.
Failure to use proper quality of paper may permanently damage the printer.

Caution: DO NOT TOUCH THE PRINTER PAPER CUTTER.

4.7. COM PORT SETTINGS


The COM Port settings for the PC connectivity through HyperTerminal software
are:

5. BLOCK DIAGRAM

The major blocks of the analyzer consist of Main board, thermal printer,
photometer, Keypad, liquid crystal display (LCD) and DB9 serial connector for PC
communication. Keypad and thermal printer is interfaced to main board using a
junction PCB. There are two stepper motors; one is for Filter wheel (Unidirectional)
& other one for Tray (Bidirectional) Movement. Three OPTO each for Filter wheel,
Tray Home & Tray interfaced to main board using a junction PCB.
The LCD is a 320x240 dots backlight display with alphanumeric and graphic
capabilities with backlight feature which enables the user to read in case of less
ambient light. This is most sensitive device to get damaged, which require careful
handling.
DB9 serial connector is to transmit data/Result from Analyzer to PC. It is Serial to
USB convertor.
Photometer is a device to measure the intensity or power of a beam of light. Light
from the lamp passes through the sample kept in the flowcell. Some amount of
light is absorbed by the sample while the rest is transmitted. The photometer
measures this transmitted light and provides the digital measurement to the
microcontroller. Based on this, the microcontroller performs set of calculation to

derive the result. The analyzer can serve 4 different filters (wavelengths), with the
option of adding 2 more additional filters.
Main board as the name suggests is the heart of the analyzer, which controls all
the hardware/software functions of the analyzer. Refer the details of main board in
chapter 6.

6. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION OF PCB


MAIN BOARD
As shown in block diagram of analyzer, main board is the heart of this analyzer.
This main board gives necessary commands and controls the operation of other
peripheral such as Keyboard, LCD, Printer and Photometer. Major blocks are
explained below.

6.1. POWER SUPPLY SECTION


Instrument can be operated at 115/230 V AC ±10% auto ranging power supply
with the use of AC to DC adaptor which gives 18 V DC required as input for the
internal devices.
This instrument uses three power supply sections designed to provide power to
electronic circuit, lamp & photometer and the thermal printer.
Power Supply > External Power Adaptor provides 18V output and is given as input
to the analyzer. This 18V DC supply is further converted to +5V DC, +12V DC and,
+5V DC isolated supply by main board power section, and its outputs are:
1. + 5 V DC for microcontroller and logic.
2. + 12 V DC for the photometer lamp and cooling fan.
3. ± 5 V DC isolated supply for photometer and ADC.
4. +18 V DC to motor directly derived from the mains supply of 18 V dc from
adaptor.

Any defect in the section will lead to any of the following problem(s)
1. Lamp voltage fluctuation.
2. Lamp not ON.
3. Printer not working.
4. Backlight of LCD is OFF.
5. Analyzer is not getting switched ON.
Action to be taken
1. Replace Main Board.

6.2. CONTROL LOGIC SECTION


The operations for controlling the instrument are performed by the Main Board.
This section is provided with ST10F276 microcontroller and 89V51RD2
microcontroller, 64K of EEPROMs. Also a timer, a serial interface RS 232C, and a
24 bit parallel interface are present on the card itself. The logic is all in CMOS
technology to guarantee low consumption and high reliability. The RTC is provided
with inbuilt battery.

Any defect in the section will lead to any of the following problem(s)
1. Communication is not taking place between processor and peripheral
devices.
2. External printer is not working.
3. Calibration data, Patient report etc. are is not getting stored.
Action to be taken
1. Replace Main Board.

6.2.1. CONVERSION OF ANALOG TO DIGITAL SIGNALS


This section of the main board selects one among different analog signals at a time,
such as input voltage, lamp voltage, VCC and photometer reading etc. converts these

The CS5460 performs the control of the measurement operations. It contains a 24-bit

6.3. MOTOR CONTROL AND MEMORY


This section controls the motion of motor using IC L6208. It is a DMOS Fully
Integrated Stepper Motor driver features a non-dissipative over current protection
on the high side Power MOSFETs and thermal realized in Multi-power-BCD
technology. It includes a constant off time PWM current controller. When the
voltage drop across the sense resistor becomes greater than the voltage at the
reference input (VREFA or VREFB) the sense comparator triggers the mono stable
switching the motor off. When mono stable times out, the motor will again turn on.
To store different types of data IC three 64 K bytes IC 24c512 are used. IC U4 is
used for user changeable chemistry parameters and values of standards and blank
for non-linear chemistry, U5 is for patient reports and U6 is used for default
chemistry parameters.
IC 12c887 is a Real Time Clock plus RAM. Its function includes to update date and
time. The date, time and memory are maintained even in the absence of power
with the help of inbuilt battery.

6.4. PHOTOMETRIC UNIT


It is one of the major blocks of the instrument & it contains 4 different narrowband
optical interference filters of wavelengths 405, 450, 492 & 630 nm for specific
chemistry tests. Apart from these 2 optional filters of wavelength 578 and 700 can
also be provided.
The Ray of white light from the lamp is passed through a filter and then is split
through fiber optics. It passes vertically through 8 channels simultaneously.
This filtered light is detected by photodiodes which is amplified and send to the
multiplexer CD 4051 which selects one signal for A/D conversion. The digital
output is communicated to processor for further processing.

6.5. JUNCTION PCB


It is the basic interface between the keyboard and CPU PCB assembly for passing
the key press signals. It also passes the data to the display assembly and thermal
printer signals. Opto signals for Tray movement, Tray Home Position & Filter wheel
Home & Filter wheel movement are conveyed through Junction PCB. Tray Motor
signals are conveyed through this PCB.

The liquid crystal display of 320x240 dots with alpha-numeric and graphic
capability.
A 20 key membrane non tactile keyboard is provided.

7. TESTING AND CALIBRATION


The instrument assemblies are factory adjusted and does not require any field-
testing, adjustment or settings. It is advisable not to change setting unless
necessary.
If it is necessary, the testing, adjustment or setting must be carried out by trained
and authorized personnel only.

7.1. TESTING OF SMPS ADAPTER


1. Check the mains power supply .It should be within 90-260 V.
2. Connect one end of 3-pin power cord to the adapter and another to the 3
pin power socket.
3. Check the output of the adapter using a calibrated Multi-meter, it should not
be less than 17 V DC without load and with load it should be 18.0 – 18.30 V

7.2. TESTING OF MAINBOARD


Apply 18 VDC supply at J11 connector and measure voltages at various test points
with respect to common ground point using a calibrated Multi-meter.

7.3. POWER ON HARDWARE TEST


1. Switch ON the analyzer by pressing the ON/OFF switch provided on the
SMPS adapter.
2. After switching ‘ON’ the analyzer, ERBA MANNHEIM logo is displayed and
analyzer will do self-diagnostic i.e. it will automatically check all the
important devices and will show the status on display.
3. If all the hardware tests are OK then the following display appears during
the self-diagnostic test.

This is routine test and will be performed every time analyzer is switched
ON.

In case of one or multiple parameters are showing NOT O.K, then the analyzer will
display message PRESS <YES> TO PROCEED, asking user to proceed by
pressing <YES> key.

If all the hardware tests are OK then the Home Screen will be displayed
automatically.

7.4. SYSTEM SETUP


The system setup menu allows the user to set the system date, time and the data
output mode. User can enter SYSYTEM SETUP menu by pressing numeric key
<5> in Home Screen.

The “SYSTEM SETUP” screen is as follows:

The numeric keys 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are used to select the Laboratory Information,
Set Time, Set Date, Data Output Mode and mixing speed/time respectively.
Following sections cover each of the above options in detail.

7.4.1. LAB INFORMATION


Select the numeric <1> key to enter the LAB INFO menu. The screen displayed is
as follows (The text is only for demonstrative purpose):

Follow the instruction provided in the lower box of this screen display, for entering
the lab information.

7.4.2. SETTING THE TIME


Choose the option 2 from the System Setup menu and set time. The display
screen appears as shown below.
The cursor is positioned on the TIME field on the SYSTEM SETUP > TIME screen.
Enter an appropriate time in the format as stated below.

HOUR: Enter an hour from 00 to 23.


MINUTE: Enter minutes from 00 to 59.
SECONDS: Enter seconds from 00 to 59.
Each entry is separated by a ‘:’ sign, which appears automatically after the entry of
the 2nd digit.
Left/Right Navigation keys are provided for entering the date and time.
After appropriate entry is made, press the SAVE key to save and return to the
System Setup screen.
Press GO BACK to quit without saving and go back to the System Setup screen.
User will be prompted if the date or time is entered wrong.
Note: If an inappropriate Time entry is made, the user will be prompted with the
message, “INVALID TIME. PLEASE ENTER AGAIN.”

7.4.3. SETTING THE DATE


The analyzer incorporates a built-in calendar function, which is maintained by a
battery, and once set, the Date and Time will be printed every time the analyzer
prints result data on the printer.
Press numeric key '3' and the following screen appears:

The cursor is positioned on the DATE field on the SYSTEM SETUP: DATE
screen. Enter an appropriate data in the following format:
DAY : Enter a day from 01 to 31
MONTH : Enter a month from 01 to 12
YEAR : The last 2 digits of any year from 00 to 99
After appropriate entry is made, press the <fn> key to save date and return to the
System Setup screen or press < PREV > to quit without saving and return to the
System Setup screen.
Note: If an inappropriate Date entry is made, the user will be prompted with the
message, "INVALID DATE. PLEASE ENTER AGAIN.".

7.4.4. SETTING THE DATA OUTPUT MODE


Choose numeric key 4 on the SYSTEM SETUP screen to select the data output
mode.

The auto print function can be done with either of the internal thermal printer or the
external printer. Select <YES> key against the required printer selection.
<PRINT> key allows the user to get the print out of the test parameters, the On-
line and the Off-line results.

7.4.4.1. TRANSMISSION
This option is selected when the results are to be sent to the external PC. Press
<YES> for selecting this option.
RESULT TRANSMISSION
1. Connect 9 pin serial cable to the DB9 serial connector on LisaScan EM
back plate (also check that its cable inside is connected to J4 connector.)
2. Open the Terminal.exe on PC.
3. Click on 'settings' option and from that select 'communication' option.
4. Select baud rate as 9600 bps.
5. Select data bits = 8.
6. Select stop bits = 1.
7. Select parity = none.
8. Select flow control as none.
9. Do not select parity check and carrier detect.

10. Select the appropriate COM port where DB9 serial cable is connected.
(COM1/COM2/COM3/COM4/COM6)
11. Now the terminal is ready to receive the data from LisaScan EM.
12. Power on the machine. Go to 'System Setup' menu. From that select 'data
output mode' and then select 'TRANSMISSION'.
13. When the sample is run, its result is transmitted to the terminal.

7.4.4.2. MAPPING AT PC
This option is selected, when the analyzer is to be operated through a PC
(Protocol compatible with Eli-LIMS and TNW). The commands are provided by the
PC. The test parameter menu and the plate definition menu will be inactivated.
When the user tries to access this menu, the following message is displayed:
“TEST PARAMETER MENU DEACTIVATED, AS MAPPING PC OPTION ‘YES’
SELECTED.”.
The analyzer will send only the sample absorbance data to the PC on line/off line.
<SEND> key is displayed during online result screen in READ ABSORBANCE
menu (with Mapping at PC ‘YES’/’NO’ option either selected or deselected).
<SEND ALL> key is displayed in Patient Report Menu only if Mapping at PC
option is selected.
If AUTOPRINT option is selected as YES, auto printing is possible only after run
test completion. Using <PRINT> Key user can get printout of Test Parameters,
Online Result, Offline Result according to printer option selected for Mapping AT
PC ‘NO’ option.
By default, the READ Mode at power on is ‘NORMAL’. But User can select
‘SPEED’ in SYSTEM SETUP menu.

7.4.5. MIXING
This option is used for mixing of the contents of well of the micro plate before start
of the run. Choose the mixing speed option as displayed in the help window. Press
the <TEST> key to verify the selected speed. The time required for mixing can also
be entered.

7.5. ADJUSTING LCD DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS


Open the Cabinet and rotate preset P1 provided on the Junction PCB to adjust the
brightness/contrast of the display.

7.6. PHOTOMETER CALIBRATION


If Hardware Check Showing “Photo Meter: NOT O.K.” :
Gain Calibration :
1. In Home Screen, press key ‘4’ for Service Check Menu.
2. Then press key ‘3’ for Photometer Menu.
3. For 4 filter version, press key ‘6’ for filter 630nm
Gain for 630nm should be in the range of 120000 ~ 250000.
4. For Microbiology / 6 filter version, Press Key ‘6’ for filter 630nm or Press
Key ‘1’ for filter 700nm.
Compare photometer count for both 630 nm & 700 nm filters and the gain
for whicher filter is higher (630 nm or 700 nm), should be in the range of
120000 ~ 250000.
5. If it is more or less than this range.
a. Check Lamp Voltage.
i) If Lamp voltage is <13.2±0.3V, set it in this range.
6. Check alignment of Photometer PCB – align it using the following
procedure:

a. Switch OFF the instrument, open the cabinet and then open the
Photometer PCB cover. Remove the photometer PCB.
b. Switch ON the instrument and ensure the centers of Heat filter; Filter &
Fiber Optics sources are properly aligned.
c. Ensure Lamp voltage to be 13.2 V.
d. Go to ‘Service check’ menu. Press ‘3’ & select filter 630 by pressing ‘6’.
e. Observe the Light circles through Fiber Optics using butter/tracing
paper. Observation should be at the height of Detector PCB Mount.
Transmission Lens should be considered as a reference for further
alignment of plate and Detector Lens.
f. All circles should be of same diameter & same intensity.
g. There should not be dark spots in the circle or any other light spots
around the circle. Make it dust free or any finger impression free by
cleaning the lens with lint free cloth.
h. Now go to plate movement in step mode. Keep the plate at poison no 1.
i. Center of Light circle & center of well should match. If it does not match
Do the tray OPTO adjustment & bring light circle at the center of well.
j. Now check for all other 11 positions.
k. Ensure light circle should not be greater than well’s bottom diameter.
l. Prepare plate with 200µl water in all 96 wells and repeat steps 9, 10 and
11 to confirm proper fitting of Lamp, Mirror, Heat Filter, Filter wheel
Assembly & Fiber Optics.
m. Fix the Detector Lens Holder and check the beam diameter w.r.t
transmission lens with help of butter/tracing paper. If optical beam is not
in line with circles of butter/tracing paper, align the detector lens holder
to make the optical beam in axis w.r.t to transmission lens. Ensure that
the photodiodes are dust free or any finger impression free by cleaning
the photodiodes with lint free cloth. Now fit the Photometer PCB and
Photometer cover.
n. Select Dark filter and ensure Dark Count is in the range of ± 750 counts.
Note the Dark count of all the channels in the following format.

o. Now if channel to channel difference is 20-30mv then only accept the
fiber optics otherwise reject it.

p. Ensure counts will be in descending order as 630,492,450 & 405nm. i.e.


for:
i) 405 nm all the channels will be ±15% of 12 mV ;
ii) 450 nm all the channels will be ±12% of 34 mV;
iii) 492 nm all the channels will be ±5% of 65 mV.
q. Now close the machine properly.
7. Procedure for Water and DYE TEST
a. Press key ‘1’ for ‘RUNTEST’.
b. Go to ‘READ ABSORBANCE’ in RUN TEST Menu, by pressing key ’2’.
c. Press F2, Select Wavelength (SINGLE, DUAL, and QUAD).Then Define
filter from List.
d. Press F3, Select Measurement Mode (Step, Continuous)
e. Run the plate with 200µl water.
f. Water OD should be < 0.1 ABS with new finished coated plate. Note the
Water readings in the Annexure sheet.
g. Make dilutions from water as per test protocol for all the 4 filters.
h. Get the data on Terminal after each run for each filter.
i. Note the readings of respective dyes in Annexure sheet.
j. Plot the linearity graph for all the 4 Filters in Annexure sheet.

8.1. VOLTAGES
Go to SERVICE CHECK menu by pressing numeric key <4>, in the home screen

Press numeric key <2> in service check menu to go to plate setting options. There
are two modes of setting. They are:

The Next key can be used to advance the plate from Home position to 12th
position i.e. when next key is pressed the plate moves from home to 1st position.
When Next key is pressed again the plate is aligned at the second position and so
on. The position 1 to 12 denotes the strip numbers A1-A12.

8.3. PHOTOMETER
Pre-channel counts of the selected filter based on the position of the plate will be
displayed on the screen. The counts of all eight channels can be viewed on the
screen. For e.g. if numeric key <2> is pressed the filter 405 will be selected and if
plate is at second position the screen will appear as follows:

NOTE: - When ELISA mode is selected position 1 and 5 have BLK filter; however
when instrument is in MICROBIOLOGY mode, position 1 has 700 and position 5
has 578 filters.

Printout of gains will be printed only on Thermal Printer, if and only if “Thermal
Printer Select with Print Key” is selected in system setup menu.

8.4. KEYBOARD TEST

When the keys on the legend are pressed the corresponding key symbol
disappears which is an indication that the keys are functioning properly.

8.5. PRINTER CHECK


This check is for thermal printer and when the print key is pressed the sample
characters are printed. If the paper lever is lifted up or if paper is not loaded, the
printer gives an error. An audible alarm is sounded, along with visual error
message that is displayed on the screen.

9. PC INTERFACE THROUGH ELI-LIMS


There is a provision to perform READ ABSORBANCE through PC by means of Eli-
LIMS software (For details refer Eli-LIMS User Manual).
In this mode, the patient entry, assay parameters, plate scheduling is done with
help of Eli-LIMS software. The command for Start Run is given by Eli-LIMS to the
instrument. Instrument performs the run and sends back the results to Eli-LIMS.
NOTE: For PC interface through Eli-LIMS,
1. Instrument needs to be in Home Screen.
2. MAPPING AT PC option needs to be selected in SYSTEM SETUP > DATA
OUTPUT mode.
3. Interface requirements (i.e. COM Port selection, Baud Rate) needs to be
fulfilled.
Results will not be stored in the instrument.

10. MAINTENANCE AND ANALYZER CARE


Due to the use of various chemicals in the reagents, a compatible cleaning and
decontaminating fluid must be used. Consult the reagent manufacturer for
recommended fluids. Secondly, to avoid any potential shock when performing
preventive maintenance on the system, turn ‘OFF’ the power switch of the
instrument.
Though air conditioning is not a must, it is advisable to keep the instrument in a
dust free, cool atmosphere, away from direct sunlight.

10.1. CHECKS PRIOR TO LAMP REPLACEMENT


The lamp needs to be checked periodically (Quarterly) for proper gain values.
1. Software Version 2012.03 or newer
a. Microbiology / 6 filter version
If the gain values at 630/700 nm are less than 140000, it is recommended to
change the lamp.
b. 4 filter Version
If the gain values at 630 nm are less than 140000, it is recommended to
change the lamp.
2. Software Version Older than 2012.03
If the gain values at 630 nm less than 175000, it is recommended to change
the lamp.
NOTE: Normally lamp life is about 1000 hours.

10.2. LAMP REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE


Warning: THE REPLACEMENT OF LAMP ASSEMBLY SHOULD
BE PERFORMED BY THE TRAINED PERSON ONLY.

REMOVING THE COVER AND WAIT FOR SUFFICIENT TIME

1. Open the top cover of LisaScan EM. The lamp is placed at left hand side

2. Remove the lamp holding clamp by unscrewing the two allen key screws
using Allen Key of 2.5 mm size.

3. Note the position in which lamp holding clamp is fixed.

4. Insert one finger below the lamp and push the lamp upwards to remove it.
Gently remove the lamp by supporting it with two fingers on top and slightly
tilting it as shown.

5. Remove the defective lamp from the ceramic connector by pulling it


outwards.

6. Replace the defective lamp with a new one. Connect it to the ceramic
connector as shown.

7. Fix the lamp in proper position, between the lamp holding clamps. Refit the
lamp holding clamp and close the cover.
NOTE: Due to the aging effect the lamp intensity may get reduced and results
may be improper.

10.3. REPLACEMENT OF THE PAPER ROLL


For any error, the printer displays the following text:

To replace the paper roll, follow the procedure as stated below:
1. Open the Printer Cover.

2. Cut the end of the paper roll as shown below so that it is easy to slide it
under the printer roller.

3. Slide the ‘Plastic Pin’ into the new paper roll.

5. Lift up the Printer lever to unlock.

6. Slip the paper into the opening below the printer roller.

7. Refit the mount for Detector PCB and close the cover.
