PROCEDURE NO.: PR/HVS/001

1. PURPOSE:

The purpose of this procedure is stage wise inspection of various activities for all ducting
work conducted at site.

2. SCOPE:

This procedure covers supervision and method of record keeping of all ducting works.

3. CONTROLLING SPECIFICATIONS:

All works relating to ducting will confirm to clients technical specifications.

4. MATERIAL:

All material conforms shall be as per client’s specifications and relevant standards.

5. PROCEDURE:

A. MATERIAL:

• All the folds and bend shall be on press brakes except for any convolutions,
which shall be crafted to suit the joint after prior discussions with consultant.
• All galvanized plain sheets shall be reasonably flat and free from twist. The
zinc shall be clean, even and free from galvanized spots. Sheets shall not
crack or peel during bending or fabrication.
• Girth angles and companion flanges shall be mitred and welded at corners
and riveted to duct sheets at 75mm centers
• Flanged joints shall be made with 9.5mm GI Bolts spaced at 100mm centers
and provided with 3.2 mm foamed rubber gasket.
• All joints and seams shall be rendered air tight with approved sealant.
• Duct panels are not to be cross-broken, if insulated.
• Longitudinal seams shall be inside groove or Pittsburgh type
• Standard elbows with a R/D ratio of not less than 1.25 shall be used as far as
possible.
• Where space restrictions do not permit use of standard radius elbow with
lesser R/D ratio square elbow with equally space double thickness vanes may
be used.

B. INSULATION:

• All insulation activities shall be carried out as per insulation manufacturer’s


catalogue / recommendations.
• Procedure for insulation shall submitted by the vendor and approved by
consultant prior to commencement of insulating activity. Mockup shall be
demonstrated to check the viability of the proposals for each new activity.
• All insulation mixes shall have shelf life that is current and have validity up
to 90 days from the date of application.
• Traceability of the insulating mixes with certificates shall be ensured prior
start of mixing.

6. INSPECTION:

• All the bought out material will be accompanied by MTC or tested in laboratory.
• All the bends shall be checked with templates.
• Straightness, alignment shall be checked with piano wire.
• All the elevation levels shall be checked with water level and spirit level
• Smoke test shall be conducted to check the joints after prior sanction of the
consultant.

Inspection report shall be prepared as per format no.:


CL/HVM/001 for Ducting Material, CL/HVS/001 for Ducting Fabrication and
CL/HVM/003 for Insulation
