GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY

A. History of PD Sambu

PD Sambu is a fish freezing company that was established in 1998. The company was
founded by Mr. Budiono. Go as the managing director. PD Sambu was originally a company
in the field of rice and candied mangoes. But along with the times and business development,
since 2002 until now PD Sambu has moved to a company engaged in cold storage business
with raw materials of marine fish such as dim fish, curry, pickles, red snapper, pomfret,
rocking eyes or other names of fish swangi and mackerel. These raw materials are obtained
from several fish suppliers in cities in Java such as Batang, Tegal, Gebang and Lorasi. These
products are offered to several countries such as China, Hong Kong and Vietnam. Some of
the problems experienced by PD Sambu in building a business such as financial problem and
loneliness of buyers are one ofthe main factors. PD Sambu also exports other marine fishery
products such as shrimp, snails, and squid. Especially for frozen squid products, the company
only exports to Taiwan. In addition to exports, the company also markets prosucts to the
domestik market, namely Palembang for fish fillet products.

B. Visi Mision of PD Sambu

The vision, mission, and goals of PD Sambu are not written in real terms. However, based on
the results of the interview, the vision of PD Sambu is to become a trusted fishing company
in producing high-quality frozen fish products. PD Sambu’s mission is to provide the best
service to buyers by producting quality products and trying to meet the wishes of buyers. And
the purpose of PD Sambu is the welfare of shareholders and employees of the company.

C. Located of PD Sambu

PD Sambu is located on Kalijaga 1 street, blok Pelabuhan Perikanan Nusantara (PPN),

Panjunan, Lemahwungkuk Cirebon, West Java. This location is used for production sites and
offices. The production site consists of place to receive raw materials, a shrimp sorting room,
an ice room, a fish and conch sorting room, a shrimp compilation room, a contact plate
freezer, a pan storage room, a labeling and packing room located adjacent to the office
management room, cold storage, chemical storage room, carton labeling and drafting room,
storage and packing room, employee changing room, air blast freezer, engine room, generator
room for more details PD Sambu Layout can be seen in Appendix 1. This located was chosen
because it is close to the port, office the ministry of fisheries and marine of cirebon and close
to cross provincial highways.
INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT

A. PD Sambu Started Their Business

At first, in 1998-2002 PD Sambu is industries that just producting some teri rice and candies
mango. Along the times, in 2002 is the beginning of the resurrection where the opportunity
began to open up for open the frozen seafood market in the international region especially
China, this industries change into frozen seafood industries for example crab, fish, shrimp,
and squid. In 2009, PD Sambu has become a fast-growing frozen seafood company, its
business is growing, the company’s land is expanding and the number of employees and
welfare for employees is increasing. PD Sambu had experienced difficulties in exporting
products, but after repairs at the factory in 2009 and having HACCP certificates in 2010
further facilitated the company’s export activities. PD Sambu already has a HACCP
certificate from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Republic of Indonesia.

B. PD Sambu Distribute Their Product

Firstly, export to the traditional market, that buyer came to PD Sambu then buy the
product. Minimal that PD Sambu set it about 10kg for the trader traditional market. Secondly,
export he other city in Indonesia for example is fillet fish to Palembang, squid to Kalimantan
and Sumatra, and from now this industries some new product that is meatball but they only
export into Java. Thirdly, PD. Sambu export the product to the other country, such as Taiwan,
Thailand, China, etc. For export to the other country PD Sambu set a minimal weight that is
27ton.

C. Human Resources of PD Sambu

PD Sambu has as many as 267 human resources, consisting of several categories including
sorting employees, pan, CR/SN, staffing, and bulk. All employees are paid daily expect the
staff who get a monthly salary. Education from staff and managers in on average high school
graduates and there is only one person with D3 education, two undergraduate students, while
for employees most are elementary to junior high school graduates. The way of requiting
workers is not too complicated, prospective workers mostly come from the area around the
company, acquaintances from employees who have long worked in the company and people
who are known to the owner of the company always arrives students from marine schools
near the company to carry out field work practices.

D. Conclusion

Indonesian has a lot of natural wealth especially the maritime one, in this study obtained a lot
of data that maritime industry such as frozen seafood has many advantages. we can
understand how entrepreneurship is. So as the next generation of Indonesia, that we have a
potential to develop business in field of maritime affairs. We should expanding international
relations also.
