We live in a world of technology these days.

While the internet brings with it clear advantages, the

problems in terms of control and security of information outweighs the advantages. To what extent
do you agree?

A major technological advancement has occurred in recent times and this is evident all over the
world. The use of internet is believed to have disadvantages by causing lack of control and insecurity
which is assumed to outweigh its benefits. In my view, although the negative side to using the
internet is significant and should not be overlooked, the positives are greater.

Firstly, it is important to acknowledge the damage online activity has caused. It has given criminals
such as hackers, access to personal information of innocent people who are targeted and either
stolen from or had an attempt at their lives. It has also given scammers an avenue to exploit
individuals who are unaware of their many tactics. For example, a man recently scammed a
foreigner through the internet by selling him an estate that is owned by the government for the sum
of $500,000 dollars. This fraudulent act was made possible because the internet gives online
predators access to innocent people all over the world with no control whatsoever.

Secondly, it is also good to point out that the internet has improved and saved the lives of many
globally. With respect to improving lives, the internet has given people access to job opportunities
that they would ordinarily not be able to find without it. This has helped provide a source of income
for families all over the world. It has also saved lives through social media platforms like Facebook.
These sites are used to create awareness for people in need of donations for surgeries or in need of
a certain blood type transfusion which no one around the sick person can assist with even if they
want to. Personally, I have witnessed many of these people get help from strangers through the
internet and end up getting the treatment they need and surviving their illnesses.

Lastly, in my opinion, the internet is a very powerful tool that has changed lives for the better and its
misuse does not overshadow this. There needs to be a tight control of how the internet can be used
and the safety of individuals using the internet should also be top priority for the government. This
will drastically reduce the negative effects of giving the public access to the internet and maximize
the benefits of maintaining their access to it.
