(Exit Iago and attendants)
Othello
I shall tell you how we met and fell in
love. [gloom light]
[dramatic song comes in]
(turns to audience in a dramatic way)
Her father used to invite me to their
home often. While I tell her stories of my
battles, she would listen, laugh,
cry,thenshe tells me that she wants a
lover like me. And at that moment, we
fell in love…the rest is history…
(Everyone who listened is either wiping
their tears, blowing their noses, or
weeping)
(Enter Desdemona, Iago, and
attendants)
Brabantio
(panicking)But, my beloved daughter—
Desdemona
With all my respect, father, I’d obey you
for I owe you that much.
(looking at Othello and smiling, holding
his arm)
But this man is my husband now.
Brabantio
(forces himself to be happy, but mad and
sad at the same time)
(holding Desdemona’s hand Othello’s)
Then, I have no choice but to be forced
to give you both my blessing.
(toDuke, looking grave)
I am done, my Lord.
Duke
Let me give you an advice: “if you can’t
change something, don’t cry about it.”
Brabantio
(hopeless)But I’ve lost something
precious and it hurts my heart. Please,
get back to your affairs.
Duke
(in a “serious business” voice)
The Turks are heading for Cyprus.
Othello, you know what to do. Your wife
can stay in her father’s house while
you’re away.
Brabantio and Othello
I won’t allow it!
Desdemona
(to the Duke) Dearest duke,
(holding Othello’s hand)
I want to come with him and fight
alongside him.
Othello
Please allow her to do this. This is not
for sexual pleasures, rather, I want this
because she asks for it.
Brabantio
(warning look toOthello)
You better watch out, Moor. She has
deceived me, and she will do the same

(Exit Duke, Brabantio, Cassio,

(recorded monologue)
That’s how I always do it, getting money
from fools. The Moor… The Moor can be
easily manipulated. He wouldn’t help
but suspect a man as charming as
Cassio. HAHAHAHHAHA! My plan’s
perfect! (laughing foolishly and
dramatically, then suddenly coughs. Then
straight face, like nothing happened)

Cassio has arrived on shore and Othello
is still at sea. Cassio brings good news
about the enemy’s defeat but he is also
worried when he and Othello separated
during the storm.
