Greensource in
South Africa
During the FIFA World Cup hosted
by South Africa in 2010, visiting en-
gineers from the Netherlands iden-
tified the growing water problem.
So they started working towards an
innovative way of addressing water
challenges. In the spirit of the great
sport of football the GreenSource
Sports for Water project was born,
further researched and tested and
ready for implementation in South
Africa in 2015. This ongoing project
to create twenty Greensource
sports pitches is an exciting public-
private partnership between top
innovative companies from the
Netherlands and the Dutch Mini­stry
of Foreign Affairs.

in India
The Sports Authority of India (SAI)
is, in cooperation with the Ministry
of Sport, responsible for the deve­
lopment of the sports infrastructure
in India. Their goal is to lift natio­
nal football in India to a higher
level. In order to train and scout
local people they plan to realise
multiple community fields where
children can learn and play.

The first community field will be
installed in 2016, right next to one
of the biggest stadiums in India;
the Nehru stadium. Focussing on
sustainability, water ma­nagement,
high quality, durabi­lity and com-
munity development the Green-
source system was selected to be
the multifunctional sub base for
combined sports development and
water management for the planned
community sports fields.

The good news is that although
water is not renewable, it is reusa-

more creative about how we can use
and protect our natural resources.
The way to do that is by looking
at natural ecosystems around us,
because they can teach us a lot
about characteristics of resilience.
Just like natural ecosystems on
earth - which reuse water in many
different ways - we have to develop
innovative circular systems where
we can catch, store and reuse water.
