What Shapes My Perspective
A perspective is a continually changing thing; everyone has their own way of thinking and their
own views, including, I have done and learned many things during my time on this earth. For good or for
worse these experiences have shaped the outlook I have on life and my overall perspective. Different
people have influenced the way I think from the lessons they have taught me. The way I have learned
about the world has evolved since I was born. I went from being taught to finding things out on my own
and coming to my own conclusions about things.
I feel like my parents helped shape me into the person I am today but specifically, my dad is the
one that rubbed off on me the most as he was the one that raised and took care of my for most of my life.
My dad has a particular perspective on the world, as he is simultaneously optimistic and pessimistic at the
same time. He shaped my perspective in the sense that my outlook on life became very similar to his. He
taught me that the world can be a terrible place with evil and godawful people, but the world can also be a
place of kindness and that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. I have held onto this outlook for
a while now, and I still try and look for the upsides in situations even when it doesn’t seem like there are
any.
Another big thing that helped shaped my perspective also relates back to my family and it is that
my older brother has Asperger. It is not as bad as it was several years ago but as an, I grew up with him, I
developed an interest in psychology, and I began sympathizing with those that have disabilities similar to
my brother. shape feel like there is a massive stigma towards mental health, someone people going as far
to blame it for things like school shootings, but growing up in a house filled with a mental disability I
have grown to have more knowledge about and , tend to be more forgiving towards those with
disabilities. When I see a mentally ill criminal, instead of focusing on the terrible things that did, I look
instead of at what went wrong in their life and why was no one there to help them? Mental illness has
been a big part of my life and has been one of the biggest influences on my perspective.
A person’s perspective changes over their life and everyone has their own way of thinking, and I
am no exception. Perspective is more than just hoe we see the world; it shapes our personalities and how
we interact with one another. So many things have shaped my perspective and as I grow older, new
experiences and new interactions with the world will help me to change my ideas, personality, and most
importantly, my perspective. I hope I grow as a person through the changing of my perspective and live
my life with a positive outlook.
