environments and human affect, cognition and behavior

 The field has always been concerned with both built and
natural environments

 The field connected to society in general, and the social

sciences in particular

human-environment interactions
 To Understand human behavior starts with understanding how people notice
the environment

 The field defines the term very broadly including all that is natural on the
planet as well as social settings, built environments, learning environments
and informational environments.

 Enhancing people’s capacity to voluntarily direct their attention is a major

factor in maintaining human effectiveness for their well-being.

 Preserving, restoring and creating a preferred environment are thought to

increase sense of well being and behavioral effectiveness in humans

The need to study
human-environment interactions
To in the pursuit of individual well-being within a larger society

solving problems whether global or local, one must have a model of

human nature that predicts the environmental conditions under which
humans will behave

To improve the quality of life through environmental policy, planning

and design

To understand the varied impact ranges from human factor studies

At Interior design scale to social geography and urban anthropology
studies at regional scale
