ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW
Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers (MCCD) is an
association of nonprofit community development organizations
committed to expanding the wealth and resources of
neighborhoods through housing and economic development
initiatives. MCCD’s origins extend back to 1982, when a group of
eight nonprofit developers met to discuss their common issues and
concerns. Through these meetings, the group was led to develop a
strategy that ultimately produced over a thousand low and
moderate income housing units in Minneapolis. The group also
focused on public education efforts and encouraged program
collaboration among members. In 1989, the group incorporated as
the Minneapolis Consortium of Nonprofit Developers and in 1993
the name was changed to the Minneapolis Consortium of
Community Developers. In 2007, MCCD merged with the Saint Paul
Coalition for Community Development and changed its name to
the Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers. MCCD
has 17 employees and a current year operating budget of
approximately $1.9 million. The organization maintains status as a
Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), as granted
by the U.S. Department of Treasury, and operates a $9 million loan
fund supporting small businesses across the 7-county Twin Cities
metro area.

As the field of nonprofit community development has changed –

from place-based community development corporations (CDCs) to
organizations more focused and specialized in specific facets of
community development (as opposed to a geographic focus) -
MCCD has also evolved. Most of the organization’s 49 members
identify as one of two types – nonprofit affordable housing
developers or economic developers focused on small business
support. However, MCCD recognizes that the nonprofit community
