School uniforms are mandatory in some high schools whereas other high schools allow students to
decide what to wear. I firmly believe that uniforms should be compulsory in schools and students should
not be given the option of dressing according to their wishes.
To begin with, uniforms give a sense of identity to the school. It instills a sense of discipline in them. The
students feel that they belong to the school. Every student of the school feels like part of a bigger group.
Secondly, uniform is a social-leveler. Where pupils are drawn from a wide cross-section of society a
uniform finishes these differences and thus reduces the gap between the poor and the rich. The teachers
also tend to treat all students equally when they are in the same uniform.
Another big advantage is that if students play truant and bunk school, they can be easily identified.
Finally, the uniform provides security. For example, if some miscreants come in the school, they can be
easily spotted from afar. Even on school excursions, it is easier for the teachers to manage if all students
are in same uniform.
On the other hand, some high schools allow students to choose their dress. They believe that they can
express themselves better by selecting their clothes.

To sum up, school uniform should be retained in all circumstances. Students should not be given liberty

International travel is regarded as one of the finest ways of broadening one’s outlook by understanding
the diversity of different places, the people, their culture and lifestyle. On the downside, international
travel has also led tourists to become biased and cold instead of receptive and indulgent.
One of the primary causes aiding this unwanted outcome is that what is considered sacred in one place
may not hold any value for the tourists. In Arab countries, for instance, women are required to wear a
burka or unrevealing clothes, and western women, not realizing the importance of being fully clad, may
develop an aversion as to why women in these countries are treated the way they are. And vice versa, a
tourist hailing from a reserved background may not identify with the western culture, and feel appalled
by the lifestyle of people there through not knowing better. Research prior to the trip can resolve this, or
if there is a tour guide or organizer, they must take it upon themselves to educate the tourists about the
local values and culture in a way that they understand and empathize rather than look down upon it.
Stereotyping is another significant cause of prejudice among tourists. The source of stereotyping is
media portrayal of certain countries, places and people which is why tourists have preconceived negative
opinions about these places when they arrive. Without really getting to know the local people, a trip
may just accentuate these views. Awareness is the only cure to break the stereotypes and for this
interaction amongst the local people and the tourists must be rallied by encouraging home stays so that
the differences between reality and media portrayal can come to the surface.

It is not uncommon that Children nowadays gain knowledge or entertain themselves by reading books
and playing computer games or watching TV. Although reading books can be always seen as a better way
for children to study, I would argue that watching tv or play computer games also play an equally
important role in their life.
There are many TV programs which are very popular among young children, like the cartoon, dancing
video and so on. These programs (especially informative television) can attract children’s attention and
encourage their interest, and it is easy for young kids to understand the theme of programs. For
example, these kids who often watch some videos about table manners are more likely to develop good
behavior patterns from a young age. By contrast, children who just care much about books may not
understand and acquire easily this kind of knowledge.
In addition, playing computer games is sometimes regarded as a good way to cultivate children’s
creativity. Children playing electronic games are more likely to understand rules and how to become a
final champion. Unlike books, since games can give children a real experience by playing a role. In other
words, these children should not only use hands but also use their brain. As a result, those children can
do an exercise in intelligence and creativity, which is beneficial to their development later.
Meanwhile, we must recognize that books show the same importance in children life. There are too

Over the last 100 years, population has grown at an exponential rate across many countries in the world.
This brings along with it its own problems such as poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and so on. Many
governments allocate huge resources to tackle these problems. Since all governments have problems to
solve in their own countries, I agree with the argument that their first priority should be their own
people.
There are ample reasons why I believe that the government should put the welfare of its own people
ahead of others. To begin with, financial resources are becoming scarce and many countries are already
in debt. These funds must be reserved for the development and maintenance of its own institutions and
social security measures such as free health care and shelters for homeless people. Secondly, such
welfare schemes not only elevate people out of poverty; they also help the government indirectly by
creating jobs. This, in turn, facilitates the economic growth of the country.
On the other hand, it is understandable and reasonable to donate money to the poorer nations as a
gesture of basic human decency and humanity. No nation, after all, can live in prosperity when its

Whether it is on TV, radio or hoardings at the side of the road, advertisements have become a part of our
lives. Advertising is a powerful and persuasive medium. I believe that the beneficial effects of ads
overpower the detrimental ones.
On the positive side, advertisements provide us with information on new products. If it were not for
electronic and print advertising, many products would not be bought. In this way, advertising provides an
important service to manufacturers and some consumers. Additionally, it fuels the advertising industry,
creating jobs for thousands of people. In this respect it has become the backbone of many economies of
the world.
Furthermore, advertisements touch social issues. For example, when Amitabh Bachhan tells people to

this idea is flawed because of the following reasons.
Firstly, much of the knowledge related to academic subjects has few practical uses, and students can use
it only for completing school assignments at school or taking tests. For example, in Vietnam, students
have to learn many complex math equations in school which cannot be applied in daily life but can only
be used for passing exams.
Secondly, learning life skills can inspire students and develop their potential. They can have more career
options to choose from after graduating from school and university. For example, my sister learned
cooking in primary school which developed her passion for it. Now she has become an accomplished
chef. Therefore, I believe that skills such as cooking and dressing should be included as a compulsory part
of the school curriculum.
Moreover, gaining necessary skills such as cooking and dressing can make students become more self-
confident and well-rounded. For example, when choosing to move to other countries to study, young
people will be able to take care of themselves if they are equipped with such skills. In addition, being
taught at school how to dress appropriately for various occasions will be very useful for students in many
situations in daily life. To illustrate, they can choose suitable outfits to make a positive impression on

In conclusion, although learning academic knowledge is important for students to pass exams, I believe

Animal extinction has become a matter of great concern. I disagree with the given statement that we
should conserve only those animals, which are beneficial to humans. I believe that all animals have
direct or indirect effect on mankind. It has been rightly said that plans to protect wildlife are in fact plans
to protect man.
The most important reason for saving all animals is that they are part of our ecosystem. Every species of
wildlife plays a role to maintain the balance of life on Earth. Thus, the loss of any species can affect us
directly or indirectly. For example, there are many bat species that are becoming extinct. Such bats help
keep the insect population in control. If these bats die then the insects will increase a lot and destroy our
crops. So, we will have nothing to eat. In addition, many animals, like rodents, help in the dispersal of
plant seeds and in the pollination of plants. By protecting endangered animals we ensure not only their
survival but also the biodiversity that is necessary for the ecological health of the planet.
Secondly, wild animals provide many valuable substances such as medicine and fur. The horn of the
rhinoceros has medicinal value and the fur of the mink is very valuable. The recreational viewing of
animals at zoos is also a source of revenue. Thus, the financial value of wild species is important to the
economies of many nations.
Furthermore, wild animals have aesthetic appeal. They are beautiful creatures of nature and are a part
of our bio-diversity. Their beautiful and mysterious life has enchanted mankind since the dawn of
evolution. Scientists have been awed, by observing their behavior. Such study has helped scientists
understand how the human body functions and why people behave as they do. Scientists have also
gained medical knowledge by studying the effect of many drugs on these animals.
Finally, it is undeniable that animal species have been vanishing at a much faster rate for about a century
now due to human factors such as pollution, commercial overexploitation, poaching and deforestation.
Knowingly or unknowingly, we humans are doing so much damage to plants and animals that working
for their conservation has become a necessity.
To sum up, it can be reiterated that saving all the animal species on the verge of extinction is well
justified. All animals have direct or indirect relation to humans. So we should not work to save only those
few species, which have a visible effect on humans.

In conclusion, I am of the opinion, on balance, that the benefits do not outweigh the disadvantages, and
testing on animals should not continue. Although it may improve the lives of humans, it is not fair that

example of this practice, laboratory mice may be given an illness so that the effectiveness of a new drug
can be measured. Opponents of such research argue that humans have no right to subject animals to
this kind of trauma, and that the lives of all creatures should be respected. They believe that the benefits
to humans do not justify the suffering caused, and that scientists should use alternative methods of
research.
On the other hand, reliable alternatives to animal experimentation may not always be available.

accomplishments. Firstly, those who were born in affluent families typically have a good foundation for
their development and prosperity. For instance, they could easily start their own business without
borrowing money from the bank or have a better education, which allows them to get a secure job in the
future. Secondly, nowadays, it often appears that attractive appearance is of paramount importance to
certain key sectors such as entertainment or fashion. Indeed, if a singer or a model is beautiful, it is
possible for her to draw much attention from audiences and have greater opportunities to climb the
social ladder.
On the other hand, I am of opinion that determined and industrious people are likely to have better
chances of success. Perhaps the principal reason is that not everyone is fortunate enough to be born in

In the education field, teachers consistently play an essential role. Some people claim that teachers are
only an occupation to teach students about knowledge and academic information. Others advocate that
teachers should teach not only subjects but also disciplines and basic ethical judgments. In my own
perspective, the age of students is the truly crucial indicator to determine the aspect of teacher's role.
In kindergartens, children merely learn how to communicate with peers and how to be socialized. The
purpose of teachers is aimed to assist children's socialization and their personality development. In this
stage, teaching academic subjects is not the first priority of teachers. Instead, teachers are more likely to
build up a role model for students so that kids can establish adequately ethical perspectives, well-
socialized behavior and correct judgmental foundation.
From primary schools to high schools, teachers, indeed, play a more complicated role in terms of
teaching. Juveniles get easily influenced by external environment and other peers' behavior. As a result,
teachers are expected to guide those students in correct life pathway as well as to teach them a wage

are equally important for teachers.

There has recently been a debate regarding whether teachers are responsible or not for guiding the

working criteria. In my point of view, teachers should teach the students in order to help them to
improve in every way possible.
Firstly, some people think that teachers are responsible for teaching what is correct and incorrect
because it might assist the learner to identify what should they behave in the society. For example, if a
child does not know anything when they are working in the society, it would not help them to solve the
problem. They might just continue with the false concept. Possibly this will lead to a conclusion that
everyone working in their own way. If this exists in Hong Kong, there will be a huge argument every day

However, some people believe that teachers should only teach things that are related to the school
syllabus. It is because they think that the parents will teach their own child at home. They will tell the
