I. Learning Competency:
differentiate plant and animal cell according to presence or absence of certain organelle,
S7LT-IId-4
II. Objectives: At the end of the lesson 75% of Grade 7 should be able to:
1. differentiate plant cell from animal cell according to presence and absence of certain
organelle by constructing a Venn diagram;
2. discuss the functions of the three main parts of the plant and animal cell;
3. recognize the importance of cell in an organism.
III. Learning Content:
A. Subject Matter: Comparing plant and animal cell
B. Science Concept:
Venn diagram – shows relationship between and among sets or groups of
objects that have something in common.
Main parts of the cell:
o Cell Membrane is a semi-permeable membrane because it permits some
substances but prevent others to pass through it.
o Cytoplasm – consist of jelly-like structure but prevent other parts of cell
are located
o Nucleus – serves as the control center of the cell
Organelles that are common on the plant and animal cell – nucleus, plasma
membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, lysosome, vacuole, ribosome, golgi
body, rough endoplasmic reticulum, smooth endoplasmic reticulum.
Organelles that can only be found on plant cell – chloroplast and cell wall
Organelles that can only be found on animal cell - centrioles
C. Science Skills:
differentiating
discussing
D. Value Focus:
recognize the importance cell in an organism
E. Teaching Materials: multimedia, pictures/illustrations
F. Reference: Grade 7 Science Learner’s Materials. pages 106 - 109
IV. Learning Task:
Daily Routine:
Cleaning of Classroom
Prayer
Checking of Attendance
Teacher’s Activities Student’s Activities
Elicit:
What are the parts of animal cell? (expected answer)
- cell membrane
- nucleus
- lysosome
- ribosome
- rough endoplasmic reticulum
- mitochondrion
- vacuole
- golgi body
- smooth endoplasmic reticulum
Engage:
Before we start our lesson, we will have a game
first. The title of our game is “Spot the Difference” (students are curious)
Class, based on the game, what are the attitudes or (expected answer)
values that you need to practice and adopt? - work together / cooperate
What is the strategy that your group used to finish (expected answer)
the game “the spot the difference”? - compare the two pictures to find the
difference.
Explore:
1. differentiate plant cell from animal cell
according to presence and absence of
certain organelle by constructing a Venn
diagram;
Class, our objectives in this afternoon are the
following. Who can read? 2. discuss the functions of the three main
parts of the plant and animal cell;
3. recognize the importance of cell in an
organism.
Pre Activity
Teacher gives instruction on how to answer the (students listen to the instruction)
activity.
Activity Proper
Students will perform an activity entitled
(students perform the activity)
“Comparing animal and plant cell”
Teacher facilitates the students.
Post Activity
Students report/discuss their work and check (students report/discuss their activity)
their answers.
Explain:
Plant cell is the basic building block of plant life.
It has rectangular or angular or rigid in shape while
the animal cell is the basic unit of animals and human
life. It is rounded and somewhat irregular. They carry
out all of the functions necessary for survival. (Students are listening to the discussion)
The three main parts of the cell:
Cell Membrane – is a semi-permeable
membrane because it permits some
substances but prevent others to pass
through it.
Cytoplasm – consist of jelly-like
structure and it is where the organelles
are located
Nucleus – serves as the control center of
the cell
Venn Diagram shows the relationship between
and among sets or groups of objects that have
something in common. It uses two circles that
overlap with one another. The common organelle
are found in the overlapping area, while the
differences are in the non-overlapping area.
