Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of how Anglo-American
literature and other text types serve as means of valuing other
people; also how to use processing information strategies, different
forms of adverbs and conditionals for him/her to play an active part
in a Chamber Theatre presentation.
Performance Standards: The learner proficiently plays an active part in a Chamber
Theatre presentation through employing effective verbal and non-
verbal strategies based on the following criteria: Focus, Voice,
Delivery, Facial Expressions, Style and Body Movements or
Gestures.
Duration: 1 hour
I. OBJECTIVES
A. EN9RC-IIb-19: Get information from various print media like brochures,
pamphlets, periodicals, and audio-video recordings.
B. EN9V-IIc-27: Give the appropriate communicative styles for various
situations (intimate, casual, conversational, consultative, frozen).
C. EN9LT-IIc-15: Analyze literature as a means of valuing other people and
their various circumstances in life.
D. EN9LT-IId2.2.1: Express appreciation for sensory images used.

A. Activity
The teacher will show a picture featuring the movie “The Hunger
Games.” Ask the students to predict what the story is all about. Show the
connection of the movie to the short story that they are about to read.
Then ask, how would you feel if you won the jackpot in the lottery?
B. Analysis
Have the students accomplish the task.
Task 3: Piece by Piece: Fill in the boxes with the missing letters to
come with a word being defined.

Do the Before Reading Activity.
Task 4 Make a Mind Movie: Read the story, The Lottery, silently as
you listen to its audio recording. Then close your eyes and visualize the
story. How does the setting look like?
Draw what you have visualized on a sheet of paper. Indicate the
paragraph number/s of the lines from the text you are sketching.
Present the background of the story to the class.
Ask the students to read silently as they listen to the audio recording
of the story.

D. Application
In small groups, identify the sensory images of the story, The Lottery.

E. Closure
Why is empathy important in dealing with other people?

F. Assignment
What are the elements of a prose? List and define each element.
