Goals, whether long-term or short-term are created by us, we make it ourselves in order for us to have something to look back
on why we have started a particular journey. As students, we had the Elementary journey, the Junior High journey, and the Senior
High journey, and at last, the last journey we’ll be undergraduates again, is our very own College journey, the journey where the
previous journeys have been preparing us for, the journey where we literally recall, review, and reapply what we have learned and
discovered in our previous journeys. Even though these three journeys differ in a lot of ways, one thing is common and this is what
you call a goal, something that we hold on in times of hardships and in times of giving up. And since I’ve just started my College
journey, soon a goal needs to be made or I’ll find my College journey purposeless and meaningless, that’s why my goal is to be a
Dean’s Lister, one semester at a time.
Achieving my goal is easier said than done, being a Dean’s Lister is not the same as getting an average of 90 and more to be
included in the students with honourable mention, and because of that I’ve come up with a plan to achieve it. First is to “Break Free”,
to realize that College days is far superior to my Senior High School days, I want to “break free” from my mind-set that just reviewing
for the exams is the only thing that matters, thus, changing my study habits is included in the process. Next is for me to “Improve” not
just mentally, but also emotionally wherein I don’t give in to stress, face each challenge with a smile on my face, and to be able to
overcome the overwhelming loads I will have as my journey continues. And lastly, my goal is to evolve, not in the manner of being
someone that has changed physically, but to be someone who thinks, decides, and acts practically based on my priorities as a College
student, this last one is really important for as soon as I develop the maturity to choose studies over ladies, to choose books over
games, and choose my future over pleasure, College for me will not be easy, but at least will go on smoothly. By doing these three,
I’m already doing my role as a responsible College student.
Being a Dean’s Lister for me is attainable as long as I break-free of my Senior High mentality, improve in every aspect of my
personality, and evolve in order for me to take on my role as a responsible college student. By doing your role in a certain journey,
success will inevitably come.
