Chapter 3: Methodology

Research design

In order to show the correlations of sleep pattern and habits of grade 12 humanities

and social science students of upper bicutan national high school with tardiness, the

type of research that was used in this study is quantitative research design. The

researchers aim to gather information and know the result of every item through

statistical analysis.

Locale of the study

The study will be conducted inside the campus of Upper Bicutan National S.Y. 2019-

2020, at the Senior High building.

Population and sampling method

In this study the researchers have the Grade 12 students of Upper Bicutan National

High School, year 2019-2020 as the research population. The researchers utilized

simple random sampling wherein humanities and social sciences had an equal chance

to be included in the sample gathered. The researchers profiled the respondents in

term of age, sex, and general weighted average.

Research instrument

The researchers provided a survey questionnaire that will be given out to the

respondents for the statistical representations of the results in the study. The

questionnaire composed of different items that are relating to the sleep pattern and

habits to show correlational study towards the tardiness of grade 12 students.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers will go room to room. The first step is to ask for the teacher of class

president’s approval regarding the distribution of the questionnaires. The subjects will

be humanities and social sciences (HUMSS). In collecting the answered papers, the

researcher will ask the class president to collect the papers, the willingness of the

participants will also be considered.

Statistical treatment of data

The data gathered were confidential. The demographic profile of the students were

collected and tallied. To interpret the data effectively, the researchers use

as main statistical tool. This will determine the frequency counts and percentage

distribution of variables of the study.
