Tech Talk
(Information and Communication Technology as a Global communication tool in the context of an individual, of the
society and of the professional tracks)

The world is no longer a world –It is more than a world. When we look around, we can
already see a developed world brought to us by the advancement in the Information, Communication
and Technology sector. In every angle, every day, all people living in this world, can attest to it. In
fact, ICT is like our blood already for it is one of the reasons why people live each day.

As an individual, ICT helps in facilitating learning not just in school but also in life, as a
whole. I thank ICT because I have appropriate information at all times that result in high productivity
and high quality research works. Also, no time is wasted in pursuing information and even in doing
research, which actually others had also done. More than that, I am able to learn how to cook
different dishes, learn how to play different kinds of musical instruments and read book with no
money charge. Therefore, nowadays, ICT cannot be separated already with our daily needs.

We are able to learn without our physical presence. Online education is essential for students
whose physical presence in class is impeded because of work or family responsibilities, geographical
limitations, health issues, or other constraints. Although face-to-face interaction in a classroom
setting seems to be preferred among education professionals, the numbers of online universities and
online courses offered by on-campus universities have risen in the past 10 years.

Truly, ICT has a great impact in our daily lives. Proofs include: we can read our local
newspaper using the online newspaper, we can get connected with our family, relatives, or colleagues
even if we are abroad by using the electronic mail, yahoo messenger, call conference, or video
conference. Digital computer and networking has changed our economy concept to the economy with
no boundary in time and space because of ICT. Thus, we, ordinary human beings can be a globally
competitive person because of it.

In the society, It brings a lot of advantages for economic development enabling millions of
transactions to happen in an easy and fast way. It has contributed immensely to social and economic
improvements such as higher employment and productivity; increased access to a higher quality of
life; it incorporated electronic technologies and techniques used to manage information and
knowledge, including information-handling tools used to produce, store, process, distribute and
exchange information; improved healthcare provision and disease prevention, or indirectly, through
improved social infrastructure, economic growth, or other broader determinants of population health.

ICT is one of the economic development pillars to gain national competitive advantage. It
can improve the quality of human life because it can be used as a learning and education media, the
mass communication media in promoting and campaigning practical and important issues, such as
the health and social area. It provides wider knowledge and can help in gaining and accessing
information.

In the context of public health, ICT, it generated many positive outcomes: improved access
for communities in rural or remote areas; support of healthcare professionals; real-time disease
surveillance; data sharing; and data capture, storage, interpretation, and management.

On the other hand, in the context of Humanities and Social Sciences, Institutions have
already integrated the innovative tools made available by ICT that increased access to and improved
the quality and competitiveness of higher education programs. Without these tools and technologies,
individuals and institutions have poorer chances to address 21st-century issues and challenges.
Therefore, without ICT, higher education would not be able to institute worldwide, redesign their
educational systems, teach methods and learn practices.

Overall, as a matter of fact, we are living in a constantly evolving digital world. ICT has an
impact on nearly every aspect of our lives – from working to socializing, learning to playing. The
digital age has transformed the way young people communicate, network, seek help, access
information and learn. We must recognize that young people are now an online population and
access is through a variety of means such as computers, TV and mobile phones.

Truly, The world is more than a world because of the developments and advancements we
have today that made a huge impact not just into our lives but also to the whole universe.
