CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTINGS

Introduction

Family is a single word with many different

meanings. People have many ways of defining a family

and what being a part of a family means to them. What

every family has in common is that the people who call it

a family are making clear that those people are important

in some way to the person calling them his family. Some

teenagers can define a family as their best friend,

teacher, classmate and people who will always be there

for them. But some other teenagers defined it as their

enemy, problem, heart ache and most hated people in their

life because of being into a broken family.

Here in the modern age a family could be two things,

complete or broken. A broken family is defined as a family

that has split or separated due to a variety of reasons.

Broken homes can cause children to question their

self - worth, to experience unnecessary grief, guilt

an d confusion. It can affect their whole life, especially

in their studies and in their emotions. Being into a broken

family gives a lot of effects in a teenager. The one

who should support and be there for them are the one who

hurts their feeling. This leads to children being raised by


single parents, stepparents or others not related to the

biological parents.

The population today in the country is increasing

because of premarital sex, which leads youth to marry early

and work at a very young age to earn money. This scenario is

the primary cause of having a broken family.

The study is primarily focused on the effects of broken

family among the teenagers and students. In this study,

researchers will focus on the behavior of the students in

school and how it affected their lives. The researchers

will be stating facts and other information about the

teenagers being into a broken family.

The main point in this studies are simple, to learn

about the effects of being into a broken family among

teenagers and how it can affect the student’s personality in

terms of physical, mental, social, spiritual and emotional

aspects and anything else about it.

Statement of the Problem

The focus of this study is to discover the effects of a

broken family to the Student’s Personality. Specially, it

seeks to answer the following questions:


1. How may the profile of the respondents describe in terms

of;

1.1 Age

1.2 Gender

1.3 Economic Status

2. What are the effects of having a broken family to the

student’s personality?

2.1 How does having a broken family affects your physical

development?

2.2 How does the student’s situation affect their academic

performance?

2.3 In what way does the student’s situation affect their

emotions?

2.4 How does having a broken family affect the student’s

faith in God?

2.5 How does having a broken family affects the way the

students interact with other people?

2.6 How does having a broken family affect the relationship

of the students with their parents?

Scope and Delimitation

The scope of this study focused on issues and problems

surrounding students of Holy Cross College Sta. Rosa. This


research was limited and conducted only at the school campus

during the second semester of academic year 2019 – 2020. The

respondents of this study were the Grade 11 and 12 students

from different strands and classes of the school.

Significance of the Study

The purpose of this study is to spread information

regarding the effects of having broken family to the student’s

personality. This study will be beneficial to the following:

To the Students- this study will help the students who have

a broken family to be aware in their situation and how it

affects their personality.

To the Parents- this study will benefit also the parents to

make them realize that having a complete family is the most

important foundation in the society and having a broken family

can affect their child’s personality in all instances.

To the Teachers- this study will help the teacher to know how

to approach or treat their students well who suffer on this

particular matter and help them in those situation.

To the Community- They say that the youth is the hope of the

future therefore if the youth in the society is doing well

which means they can have a healthy and active community.


To the School Management- this research can help the school

administration be aware of the arising issue on having a

broken family that most students can possibly in.

To the Future Researchers - This study can be their guide for

their research. It can also give them prior knowledge

regarding the topic.

Conceptual Frameworks

A conceptual framework represents the researcher’s

synthesis of literature on how to explain a phenomenon. It

maps out the actions required in the course of the study given

their previous knowledge of other researcher’s point of view

and their observations on the subject of research.

relationship of the students with their parents?


PROCESS

The researcher will conduct an interview with the

selected respondents who is living with a broken family.

In regards with the interview, a phenomenology study was

used in this study. Interviews and observations were

used to collect data, which tackles the health issues

and student’s personality development that occurred when

they were having a hard time in living with the broken

family and the respondents will then answer each

question given to them with honesty and sincerity. After

the researchers have gathered all the necessary data,

they will began organizing and analyzing all the data

and start doing the draft. The researcher will then

correct, revise and edit their draft. After all the

revisions made, the researchers will then be able to do

the final output of the study.


OUTPUT

A research study that will not only show the

effects of having a broken family in the student’s

personality but will also provide a deeper and better

understanding of their situation and being aware of what

is happening. This study can give learnings that serves

as guide that leads the others in approaching them and

will be beneficial to everyone. It may be helpful also

in boosting their confidence and bring them out of their

shells. The researchers will get the results and will

learn from this study, so does other people.

The input provides specific questions about the issue

and contains the profile of the respondents. While the process

includes the process of collecting and gathering data through


the use of some methods, techniques and procedure. Lastly,

the output contains what will be the outcome of this study.
