PROJECT JUSTIFICATION:
Cancer is not a contagious disease it is caused due to Tobacco, Alcohol, and Radiation, Reproductive factors,
Unhealthy diet and Transplantation of organs. The cancer rate was increased 5.5% of India’s population from
1990-2016.
Cancer Statistics in India:
 Estimated number of people living with the disease:
around 2.25 million
 Every year, new cancer patients registered: Over
11,57,294 lakh
 Cancer-related deaths: 7,84,821
Risk of developing cancer before the age of 75 years,
 Male: 9.81%
 Female: 9.42%
Total deaths due to cancer in 2018
Total: 7,84,821
 Men: 4,13,519
 Women: 3,71,302
Awareness of public:
54% of people were aware of diagnosis, whereas 46% were unaware that they had cancer.

(Source:http://cancerindia.org.in/geographic-distribution-burden-cancers-india/)

Globally, over the past few decades, there has been close to a 25% increase in survivors use of CTs.Anywhere
from 40% to 83% of survivors use CTs after diagnosis, and up to 90% of these report some benefits from use,
whether it was improved coping with stress or the side effects of treatment.

Overall CAM awareness in the present study was found to be 96.7% among all surveyed, overall CAM use was
found to be 38.7% including 39.3% among males and 38.2% among females. Sixty percent of patients who
were aware of were not using CAM, only 40% aware were using CAM.

Cancer may affect the family in a similar way as it invades the body of the patient and cause psychosocial, or
anxiety and depression in them. Another main reason for depression is that, patients are not given mental
strength by their family members. Most of the cancer patients experience more psychological problems like,

(i) Physical symptoms like pain, nausea, vomiting, and weakness cause emotional distress,
(ii) Fear of death
The psychological management should be an appropriate package of medical, psychological, spiritual, and
social care. Alternative cancer treatments may not play a direct role in curing your cancer, but they may help
them to cope with signs and symptoms caused by cancer andcancer treatments. Providing workshops
techniques assist in restoring their appearance and self-confidence through active learning in a group
workshop environment.

STAGE 0:Cancer cells are still in place where they started and have not spread at all.
STAGE 01:Is small and spreads into nearby tissues. It has not spread to any other body areas.
STAGE 02 AND 03:It is larger and may have spread to nearby tissues.
STAGE 04:It is the advanced stage of cancer.
Most common types of cancer in Kerala are,
Man-Lung cancer,Throat cancer
